I am quite new to muzzle loading, I got the basics down. What I have is a new Traditions presute.
Shooting today I was doing quite well with 2 pellets of 777, just at 50 yards I can pile them on top of each other. @ 1850 fps. I have been using 200 grain shock wave slugs. And well for my hunting setup I want to reach out to 200 yards so I tried the max load of 3. And well my shots were every where. But at 2600 fps!!! So I started looking for a sabot. here is what I found.

What can I try here next? I would love to keep that 2600fps If I can control it.

I consider that muzzleloader a 150yd gun tops. In my own, I use a 300 grain bullet with 100gr of 777.

You have a good load and a poor one. Keep the one and abandon the other. I assume you are using 50gr pellets - you could try two 50's and one 30, and heavier bullets. I assume it is a 45 cal, in which case a 200gr bullet is quite light. Try a 250 or 300 and see what you can do to paper with that. You are a brave man to fire a sabot through a chrony and risking the sabot impacting it.

Its a 50 cal, the bullets measure out to .399. I was cleaning it every shot with a wet and dry patch. Shoots were around 15mins apart for a cool barrel also. Barrel length is 26 inch's. I have a 3-9X40 scope on it also.
This is the round.

Im no expert but did some researching on the net and by the looks you're pressure is too high for that sabot. Get yourself some good sabots preferbly MMP as they are said to be the best. If you go to chuckhawks website there is an excellent article on how to choose a proper sabot.
Guys that are shooting these smokeless Savage ML's get that problem and have to put a small disk of plastic behind the sabot to prevent it from blowing through. I'll try and find you some links for more info.

Cheers!!

What you may want to try is the MMP sabot sub-bases. I am in process of ordering some myself, and I know that PRbullet out of Anola, Manitoba does carry them. Hope this helps.

Ishodu,

I called Hodgsons a while back because I was getting conflicting info on triple 7 vs Pyrodex pellets (Maximum Charges). I aslo called Traditions as I had just purchased a Pursuit Pro

Both Hodgson and Traditions told me that 130gr of 777 Pellets are the maximum load in the Pursuit Pro. They stated that 150gr of Pyrodex Pellets was the max load for the Pursuit Pro. apparently 777 pellets are 15% more potent than the Pyrodex pellets.

Just something to think about if you were not already aware.

I also heard this also heard many times saying that the 50 grain 777 pellets are equivalent to 50 grain pyrodex pellets. And its only the loose powder that is to be measured to a maximum of 130 grains. There was also a post on this forum about this subject. I also found this post on another forum.
I do wish they would publish the correct info ASAP.

Well I have gotten some HP MMP sabots and sub bases. The bullet is no longer totally in accurate. I never got to make many shots yet to be confindent in it though. Time will tel, Il could also not find any of the orange sabots or black sub bases to study. 3 pellets of 777 pushing a 200 grain slug are now crossing the chrony 2250 ish. I suspect that when blowing the wad apart like it was above was giving me a very false reading.
