Yes, it's a bit much however if the weight is fine then who cares. Maybe take the sun shade off? How's the eye relief? You'll want a fair amount.

Who did you pick up the bottom rail from? Easy install?
I'm #25 & #26 on the list for the RFB at reliable gun and I may as well get a head start on accessories.

It should be fine without the sunshade. Nothing is going to go into it. The brass goes out on the left side, either straight out or dribbles down and nothing from the barrel will get it.

One of the distributors had the rail. It takes about 15-20 minutes to install.

The main concern with mounting scopes and optics with these types of rifles are the ring heights. It's tough finding good ones that are tall enough so you aren't doing the forehead forward while looking thing. There's enough bark while benching it that if you are doing this and don't have enough eye relief that you will get a small tap by the eyebrow. No scope bite yet, but I could see it being a concern. More importantly the correct height is needed for a proper sight picture. The scope I used was too low and it was a pain. I'm still waiting for my rings to come in.

In my personal, newbie, and very humble opinion, it just doesn't look quite right to me.
 
I find all longer optics look a little obtuse on the smaller carbines. Probably why I run compact scopes or EoTechs on mine. But whatever your happy with is all that matters.
 
It does look funny, even to me, the scope is off my Rem700, I just wanted to try it, and I kind of liked the look. Not sure what I really want to put on yet, open to sugestions though, this will be a hunting rifle. I have to admit, the balance was still there with the big scope.
 
It's a bit pricey, but I will be running my RFB with the Elcan Spectre DR 1.5x6 for 7.62.. I put the Spectre 1x4 on to check eye relief and balance, and it worked well. The 1.5x6 is good out to 400M for hunting. The nice thing is it's an all around optic, I can go from CQB to a hunting optic in a flick of a switch. It's also handy to have both a lit red dot and lit cross hair option with a 2000 hour battery life, and the glass is amazing.
