Too Pretty to shoot? Collect it or hunt it....need your opinion!

I'm not a collector either but if I ever decided to by a special edition with a limited run and I received the numbered "one" of 150, I would consider that a collectable and put it away.
Go out and buy "2 of 150" and use that for smashing around the woods.

Hunt it, it's a nice looking rifle but it's not a showpiece or 5 - 6 digit price tag nice. The basket weave and "engravings" are machine cut or laser etched not hand done and it has what would be graded a standard grade walnut stock. Use it for it's intended function. You'll be happy you did. It would look much nicer in the bush than a safe.

Yeah, I agree with using purchased items and not simply storing them as collectables, but there are limits. A special edition numbered item (as vrex mentioned), would be an exception for sure. I have a 1911 manufactured in 1943 I can't bring myself to shoot either...I am holding it as a collectors piece for the time being. Hard call, brother. Would you be terribly upset if you scratched it or otherwise reduced the value? If so, treat it with kid gloves. If not, take it outside and enjoy it.

My Dad hunted in that Granisle country of Northern BC with this custom rifle for years. Hand polished, rust blued, hand-rubbed walnut, commissioned when he was 23 years old...no factor. Now that he has passed I was lucky enough to have received the rifle as mine forever and sure, it has a few marks, but all of them fairly earned under honest use. To my mind, a rifle like that is more valuable than a NIB rifle, no matter the rarity. It's my "grab in case of evacuation" rifle because, even if I could source the same parts I could never get that rifle duplicated.

You just know that a man who keeps the bill of sale for 56 years in pristine condition is also going to take good care of the rifle...

I had the same issue and frankly got tired of it. Sold off every safe queen and firearm I wasn't going to shoot. Hurt a little and maybe regret a few from time to time. However, these things are meant to be used. Most of my latest purchases have been second hand and all have at least 'one mark' on them. Problem solved!

one of 150 but really only 100 made the other 50 are high grade in french walnut. So, only 100 with upgraded claro. We've managed 7 of them and all were sold before getting listed, if I recall. Two more coming and that is likely it.
