Took me quite a while but I think I have now seen the light

I own Russian SKS rifles, Chinese SKS rifles, a CZ 858, a 5.56mm CSA rifle, and a HK SL8 rifle.
I don't claim to be the best of shots, in fact I claim to be near the worst, but I know I am at least consistent.
Using a red dot I can just about place my shots within a five inch circle at 100 yards with all of the rifles listed above. With practicality in mind, at the end of the day I find the SKS rifles to be just as good as anything else. Shoot something with an SKS and it is just as dead as when shot with an HK SL8, the only difference is that an SKS is ten times cheaper.

Is the mini 14 or AR 15 any better ?

AR15s can shoot sub-MOA with the right barrel and ammo but are generally accepted to be 1-2 MOA as stock. The Mini was considered minute of broadside-of-barn before the 580 series, now they're about the same as an AR. The match models are better apparently.

As you say, the SKS is a perfectly acceptable rifle when fed right and shot right. Our own member Ganderite did a comprehensive test on ammo types and discovered 1.25 MOA with surplus was achievable! "Junk guns", "throwaways", "commie garbage", all tripe and hyperbole spoken by poor shots and ignorant snobs who've never owned one.

They're the best deal on a centerfire rifle in the country, bar none. No reason not to have one!

What has become very apparent to me is that none of these snobs who have never owned one, yet seem to know everything about them is willing to come shooting with me. They seem to find comfort in their claims that the SKS is the worst rifle ever made and are afraid they might be shown different.

Own an sks and a mini 14, both are a lot of fun but the mini is twice the cost to buy. The sks for the cost is well made and dependable, also great to teach the kids on .

I'm no hot shot and I can routinely smash the 200yrd gong at silverdale shooting unsupported with my sks's, that's with the stock iron sights. I've never understood folks saying the sks isn't accurate. It seems plenty "carbine" accurate with surplus ammo to me, but then my expectations are probably realistic...others maybe not so much {dreamland dude "Why can't this $200 battle carbine get 1.5 MOA at 100yrds? Absolute junk!"} LMAO! The rifle is what it is, nothing more, no matter how much BS you do to it!

Having said that, I personally don't hunt but if I did I wouldn't take shots past 50 or 70 yards for a humane placed shot...but like I said I'm no hot shot. :)

Last summer just for fun we inflated balloons at pegged them out around 200-250 yards and shooting off a bench we were hitting 4 out of 5 shots with iron sights. I love my SKS, the only thing I don't like is I only have one (for now)
