Took my new Kel-Tec SU-22 out to the range Friday - was pleasantly surprised

Have been excited to try this new rifle out, and was surprised at how well it digested the cheap bulk ammo I usually shoot through my 22s. I was getting 4 failures out of every 100 rounds with both Remington Golden Bullets and the Winchester White box 333s - even though the Kel-Tec forums and other places typically say the rifle doesn't like those loads. I got through 550-ish rounds on the first night with no rifle-related failures; all the failures were from the loose-crimped ammo jamming on the feed ramp and the bullets bending. I will be grabbing a box of Federal Automatch soon to try that, as the forums all suggest the rifles "like" it. I had no failures whatsoever in a brand new rifle with CCI Minimags - we'll see how reliability improves or doesn't with the GBs and 333s as we get deeper into break-in.

Overall, I was impressed with how easily this rifle eats through 25-round mags in rapid-fire and how such a light rifle was comfortable and steady to shoot as quickly as I could. I know it's a 22, but it was good for a 22.

Looking forward to "getting to know" her better over the next few thousand rounds.
 
Buy the pistol grip! Its expensive but the trigger is imo better and the takedown pin is retained.
Only downside is it doesnt fold completely. Would have been nice to design it to do so.
Also there is an AM180 drum mag conversion.
Which means you could have a 275 round drum!
Mine was the first in Canada.
 
Right now I have a few 25-rounders and that has been a big plus versus the 10-rounders I've had in other rifles. A drum would be ridiculous (but awesome). How heavy is the loaded drum?

I was thinking of looking for the fully-folding stock from the Su-16 for my 22. I find the trigger is pretty good already, but I spend all my time with plastic pistols from Austria and milsurp red rifles, so the bar is low.
 
They come with a ten rounder but 25 rounders are available. I was looking into this very rifle and found suppliers here that sell them. They use the same mag as the ar15 conversions and a few other rifles.

My old SR-22 grouped like a shotgun so that's not saying much. Vault's pricing when the dollar was down was fairly inflated but welcome to Canada. With our dollar in the crapper at the moment the price they're going for is in line with the price in the states.

I found the accuracy to be quite good for my first time with it, not having it sighted in and for it not being broken in. I'll have it sighted in by the end of this week and will report back - but it's super-controllable under rapid fire and I find the sights very easy to use, so I expect it will be totally satisfactory. If I can get it to shoot as well as an old Cooey I'll be one happy guy.
 
I have a couple of the Black Dog 25-rounders, the older pattern not the newer X-Form ones. They seem to be excellent so far (only a couple of hundred rounds through each though). The factory mag that came with was a 10-rd Black Dog X-form mag.
 
I once read something about 50% increase to the factory mags with a mod. Not for us Canadians but knowledge none the less for all you SU22 owners!!!!!
Silly how we can buy 25 and 32 round AR 22 mags that work but factory mags that are larger than 10 rounds are prohib.
 
It sure looks like the factory 10-rounder could hold another 10 rounds, the follower doesn't even go halfway down the track with ten rounds loaded...
