Took my Stevens 200 in 223 to the range today.

Why not?

You guys are missing out if you don't at least try one of these Stevens 200 rifles.

This is the second one I have bought. Never changed a thing, just mounted a scope and both shot an inch right out of the box.

Adjusted the trigger on the 300 Win and it shot well under an inch with a 3-9 Elite 3200. Took it on its first hunt last week and shot a caribou, running, at around 300 yd. The rifle swings smoothly and points like an extension of my arm. I am impressed, to say the least.

Today, River Rat and I went to the range and I shot the 223 for the first time. Again, right out of the box, with an old 3-9 Scopechief, it is a one inch gun. After I got home I adjusted the trigger down to just under three pounds and it breaks clean as glass. We'll get serious with it now and see what it can really do.

I have never been much of a Savage fan, but that is changing fast. I am going to order another one, in 270 Win, on Monday. :)

I see Gatehouse has jumped on the wagon with a 30-06. It will be interesting to see how it shoots.

Running Caribou at 300 is a hell of shot, they can sure eat up the ground in a hurry... congrats:). What bullets are you using in the .300WM Ted?
I keep hearing great things about the Stevens rifles.... I may have to try one;).

BR, I was using 180 gr Hornady SSTs ahead of 73 gr of Norma 204 and Remington 9 1/2 M primers.

You are right, they move a lot faster than you think and the shot actually hit a bit too far back. Should have held a foot in front of his nose.

I just bought one yesterday in a 243...gave it to my dad...only reason I opted for the 243 was that I was all set up to load for it...anyway,we headed out to the range,I took my vanguard 243 along to play with a few loads as well.....the Stevens easily put them into an inch(2 were side by side and third took off) with the same loads I developed for my vanguard, which is a huge bonus.....we even ended up with a nice 4 point whitey out of the deal,he was standing about 40 yards away in a little clearing just to the left of the range

All in all....the Stevens is a nice little gun that will work perfectly, and not break the bank at the same time...light and nice to carry

Got one in .243 winchester, it loves 65gr vmax, backed with 42.3gr of varget, getting 3496 ft/sec. Guys at the range laughed when I told them it was worth about 3 hun and the scope is a tasco 2.5x10. Proceeded to shoot 2 shots in the same hole, and 1 just leaving a trace of paper between the other 2. 1/4 inch group out of a less than 500 doller rifle set up. (Oh yeah, take the stock off and use a rasp to remove material on the stock so the bbl doesnt run the sides near the forarm.)

Gonna buy me another of these beautys

I used Kylon Camo OD green, and brown and Make it Sueade Green.

I pritty much just cleaned the oil off the action/stock etc, then did a base coat, then added some more paint, then added the stripes.
