Finally got to the range with my used GSG STG 44 and just thought I'd share a few things.
First.... I had to raise the rear sight... a lot.... to be on target at 50 yards. I think I had it around the 800 mark. Took me a good 20 rounds basically skimming the ground below the target before I picked up on it. I was using CCI mini - mags.
The mag has a thumb tab you pull down to make loading easier. It took me a few times to get the hang of it, if you pull down too far the rounds will turn vertical.
The ergonomics of it are... lacking. The Germans needed to spend a little more time I think perfecting the rear stock as I found it clunky and slightly uncomfortable to get a good sight picture.
It's heavy. At first it was easily managed but as the day went on holding it in one hand to do a mag change got tiring. Likely my own fitness level is to blame here though, as it is does feel nice and sturdy.
Likely my error in loading the mag but I'd say 50% of the time my last round would jam and bend at the bullet while entering the chamber. Very few other ftf/fte other than this though.
Ultimately, even with all of the above, I like it. The mag release button is simple, dust cover is nice and it looks almost authentic. Solidly built and once I adjusted the sights very accurate at 50 yards with open sights. I'm going to buy a few more mags, try to track down some Stingers, and looking forward to getting it out again!
