Finally got to the range with my used GSG STG 44 and just thought I'd share a few things.

First.... I had to raise the rear sight... a lot.... to be on target at 50 yards. I think I had it around the 800 mark. Took me a good 20 rounds basically skimming the ground below the target before I picked up on it. I was using CCI mini - mags.

The mag has a thumb tab you pull down to make loading easier. It took me a few times to get the hang of it, if you pull down too far the rounds will turn vertical.

The ergonomics of it are... lacking. The Germans needed to spend a little more time I think perfecting the rear stock as I found it clunky and slightly uncomfortable to get a good sight picture.

It's heavy. At first it was easily managed but as the day went on holding it in one hand to do a mag change got tiring. Likely my own fitness level is to blame here though, as it is does feel nice and sturdy.

Likely my error in loading the mag but I'd say 50% of the time my last round would jam and bend at the bullet while entering the chamber. Very few other ftf/fte other than this though.

Ultimately, even with all of the above, I like it. The mag release button is simple, dust cover is nice and it looks almost authentic. Solidly built and once I adjusted the sights very accurate at 50 yards with open sights. I'm going to buy a few more mags, try to track down some Stingers, and looking forward to getting it out again!

It is what it is...

Ach, 'it is what it is', and what it is is a very faithful replica of an historic weapon, c/w its original weight, sights, and ergos, so don't expect it to be like a modern firearm. If you want light weight, good ergos, and sights calibrated in .22 rimfire, then rush right out and get a Ruger 10-22.
Personally, I'm very pleased with my GSG StG 22.

Yes, I was a bit perplexed by the rear sight at first. I was hitting way low when I'd set the tangent where I thought 50 yd ought to be.
If GSG copied the original sights as well as they did the rest of the rifle, then the markings would be in meters calibrated for the 'Kurz'
cartridge, which has ballistics much different than the .22.

Be that as it may, I found setting the rear sight at "5" to be good for a 50 yd zero. I'd like the notch to be more prominent but then,
"it is what it is"... It's not "a tack driver" (my Savage MkII is far more accurate) but it's a hell of a fine plinker, it's got those classical
cool looks, and it's tonnes of fun.

I've got three mags, so I can blast away for several minutes before needing to reload. I'm just glad the ammo is cheap!
