Long time lurker, time to break the silence!
I managed to get some range time in the other day. Unfortunately, my gf was stuck at home taking care of her brother, so I ended up going by myself. Fortunately, this gave my some time to get re-acquainted with my Remington 597. (She dislikes recoil, so I usually end up spending most of the time with my SKS and she plinks with the 597)
I forgot how accurate this thing is! For a cheap rifle ($150) with a cheap Tasco 3-9x32 scope ($50), and even cheaper ammo (Federal Bulk 525), it can perform remarkably well.
Here's the setup: At 100m on crown land, using only the 7.62x39mm crate as an improvised rest. The SKS got a little action that day as well!
