And yeah, why am I posting this before I have any pics or a range report??? Had to share the news I guess. Always felt like I "missed the boat" where old single-shot .22s are concerned. Found a really nice specimen, whale belly, and spent about 2 hours cleaning decades-worth of crud out of all the tight spots. I've never seen one with nicer, original metal...including a bolt that looks like it's only been cycled a few dozen times.

Anyhow, in all my reading about them, I've never heard anyone mention how robust a walnut stock these rifles have, and the fact that it really is an adult-sized rifle. It barely fit in my soft rifle case. (length wise)...and this is the case I use for my Savage .223, all my rimfires, etc. Once I've had a chance to put a couple hundred rounds through it, I'll decide on optics. Thinking a gunsmith-mounted Weaver 60A base.

Enjoy the gun. Many of the old Cooeys had a nice looking piece of walnut on them---value for dollar. I have the 75 with 27" barrel but I also have the Ranger store brand version with 24" barrel. So they were available with a shorter barrel.
Now you will want the model 78 target version of the 75!

So I guess you don't want to buy mine anymore?:p:yingyang:
I just decided about 10 mins ago that it needs to go to fund my sighting system for the marlin 60. Funny how life happens that way.

You should have no problem selling that beauty! For the record..I was thinking of our discussion when I got this rifle home last night. The stock, from about the trigger back, has a very slight warp to it! :) (away from my fat cheek, when sighting down the barrel) You need to look closely to detect it, so I'm not worried. Now that she's all cleaned-up, I'll get her out for a shoot this Sunday if the weather is OK. Something tells me some glass is in this rifle's future!

Update~got to test-fire this rifle today, WOW...can it shoot! Very informal due to lack of time, but I set-up some empty cans at various distances and simply didn't miss one using Federal Gold Medal Target. Wish I had more time, wish I had more types of ammo to try, but I'd say it was fun getting back to my roots. (iron sights) Hope to get out soon, punch some paper with the rifle on a rest...see if it's as scope-worthy as I've read they are. Some part of me wants to keep shooting it with irons..already have scoped-up Savage and Anschutz bolt-actions.

On a side note, I'd kind of justified this purchase by telling myself my (small-framed) 10 yr. old daughter could shoot this. LOP is too long for her, and she hasn't the strength to #### it. Guess it's dad's gun...what a shame. :) Think "she" might need a Marlin 795.

good to hear, they are real nice shooters thats for sure. Definately undervalued rifles. Im curious, how do you plan to mount a scope? Im thinking of doing that also if mine does not sell anytime soon.

If the rifle is "Really for your Daughter" :p you could easily shorten the stock and or barrel. Personally I like peep sights on the "Old Cooey Rifles" Pardon the crappy lighting and what not.
