took the girlfriend out....she 'stole' my rifle

new .22 on the way...hopefully the heavy barrel and slightly bigger scope will discourage her from 'claiming it hers'

I will get on painting hers before it shows up so hers 'looks nicer'

Cool, you get another savage? What scope are ya putting on it? You could order a boyds for her in pink, I got the boyds SS evolution and put on an old lakefield a couple weeks ago and finally popped some gophers last friday, such a nice stock and good for a lefty.

Yes, picked up a mark 2 FVT from the EE. Its coming with a scope that the previous owner was very happy with so we will see how it shoots when it gets here. I wish we had more opportunity for gophers here in Ontario. I know Ive been gopher hunting with my BIL out in Moose Jaw and had a blast.

That's what happened with my Skorpion. And my Savage. And my 870. And my Benelli M-4 Super-90. And one of my AR-15's.

Best of times shooting side b'side.

lol One of our[Ontario] Marmots can outweigh the rifle by 3x, where it'd take quite a few western gophers to tip such scales. Be careful what you wish for though, as they[gophers] are pesky critters.

I'm not sure what would be considered 'normal' numbers for an afternoon hunt would be. But when I was out between the 2 of us we had 30 confirmed shots in about 4 hours....

Anywhere in eastern Ontario to gopher/ground hog hunt?

Nice story OP. Now you need to be careful what you share :) (kidding) ...my wife has for some time claimed ownership of (what used to be ) my Ruger #1 in 220 Swift...and she can shoot it lights-out too!

My wife won't even have a conversation about shooting, let alone try one of my rifles. Too many years of her mom telling her "guns are bad." I loved the look on her face (and her mother's) a few months ago when her dad revealed to me that he still has his pal and that there have been a few shotguns and .22's sitting in the house for years! News to me too. If I had known, I'd at least have gone out plinking with my father-in-law. Better than golfing!

One day I'll get her to fire off a few rounds with the .22. It's the least she can do for forcing me into Ikea with her!

Seems like you're already in the right spot for that kinda fun with 30 confirmed. Where I am has changed a lot in a few decades. Not only are there not as many groundhogs, there are even fewer farmers who want 'em eradicated.

The majority of holes I make with m'beloved rimfires are now made in the inanimate. Paintballs(on snow) are huge fun, and making golf-balls dance makes for huge, cheap fun. Dollar store sidewalk-chalk is fantastic stuff. I shot more clays in 2008-2014 with rimfire at a 100(lol and beyond) than I ever have with a shotgun by many factors.

The best of shooting times are shared, or at least witnessed! Having a pair of plinkers to share is priceless fun.

Wish I could get my wife out. She's not the slightest bit interested. I do think she is warming up to the idea. A couple of times she was out there watching while the kids were shooting. Hell, the most anti gun person in my family is my mom and she gave it a go after seeing my daughter shoot!

So I have everything painted, touched up and reassembled. She hasn't seen it yet but I'm sure she will love it.

Thinking I might do the same to mine in blue or red.

I'm a woman who has always been pretty certain she would never own a pink gun but , I have to say , that is really really nice looking !
I'd be proud to shoot that rifle , you did a great job .

My wife used to shoot my .17 hmr, but didn't like the heavy barrel, laminate thumb hole so when we found a .22 mag in light barrel comp stock, she was all over it. She prefers to shoot standing, off hand, so the weight was the primary concern.
