took the marlin 795 to the range today..

Very impressed with my 795. Was impressed with my Model 60 but have since sold it after having both the 795 and the 60. Tube feed was a pain to load and unload. Stuck a cheap Simmons 4X scope on it and love it. The rifle too. Best bang for the buck out there. Accurate and inexpensive, unlike a 1022.

Hmmm....alittle off topic here, but I think I'll have to consider the McFadden Lightning loader for my 795. Easy loading of the mags will make shooting the 795 that more enjoyable. Nice shooting OP..

They don't ship directly to Canada... Know anywhere to get them up here?

My new 795 came with a factory 10 rounder, and I just got another 10 rounder in the mail from Wolverine. It was the last one they had though. Still haven't been out to shoot it, but my new rings came in the mail yesterday and I installed the Mcarbo spring kit already. Can't wait to try it out!
Initially on the bench when i got the mcarbo springs installed, I didnt notice much difference at all. Shooting it was another story though! I really like it now!

Love my 795. Just bought a cheap 3 x 9 scope for it.
I went to both Cabela's in Edmonton and Bass Pro shop in Calgary, and I haven't seen 10 round mags on the shelves, only 7 rounders. Good thing I own two 10 rounds already.

Yeah, I just found out too when I contacted them yesterday. They used to ship but not anymore. They stated that they investigating the export paperwork and hope to be able to start shipping to Canada in about 6-8 weeks.

I hear a lot of good stuff about the 795, I used to have one. Not good stuff to say about it. Jam... Jam.... Jam..... It pissed me off. I had three mags, all of which failed misserably. I now have a 10/22 I had very few jams before, cycled about 90%, I bought a $15 VQ extractor. It runs 100% now. I just had it out today, 1 and a 1/4 inch 10 shot (fairly quick) group at 50 yards is good enough for me. I have a black hawk axiom stick with an sr22 barrel on it.

However... I have been tempted to pick up a new model 795 as they are pretty inexpensive just to see how it goes on round 2. If it works well it will stay, if not, well I have my 10/22.

A lot of hate here about the best .22 ever made

Which "best .22 ever made" are you referring to? Curious. Because I currently own just shy of 20 different .22s (semis and bolts), and have been shooting .22s for over 35 years, and the best one I've ever shot, I don't own (but still have access to) and it hasn't been produced since before I was born.

The 10/22 of course

Just ordered tech sights and a Mcarbo trigger kit for my marlin. Cant wait super excited.

I had the same sights on my Savage Mark II, and I really liked them. For the Mark II, Tech Sights add a couple of mounting plates, but they're the same sight. I painted the front post a day-glo orange, just to be like that, lol.
They worked well, and my new shooter wife liked them too. I too them off to put a Simmons .22 Mag scope on, and now I'm stalking my local Sail store to pick up a 795. Apparently they're having a 15% off firearms sale soon, but the last time they ran it, they had no 795s :-(

Let us know how you like them, and for crying out loud, where's all the pics? Yeah, I got nothing, either ;-)

Bass Pro in Calgary have Blue 795s but the price went up a bit, $189. now. Still looking for a Stainless one too. Shot a bunch of gophers yesterday with mine.

I have owned about 4 or 5 10/22 rifles over the years since Ruger began making them.

While I found them OK, they are far from the best semi-auto out there. Lots of upgrades available, of course.

Once you spend a few hundred extra dollars, they can be quite good. From the factory, usually mediocre.

The Marlin is a great SA 22, as are some of the older Mossbergs. [I have a Mossberg 151M(b) that I will put against any factory 10-22 I have seen so far.]

If you want high end, then a CZ or a Anschutz SA fills the bill.

Regards, Dave.
