Tool necessary for field stripping S&W M&P

Ridiculous indeed.
You can also use a pen, pointy stick, matchstick, hairpin, toothpick, key.....

I was unimpressed when I saw that too, you can do without it...
but that thing looks like it is ready to fail anytime, the fit is really bad so it leaves a gap between it and the frame and it locks-in with a plastic bulge.

Not sure what you are talking about....
But have you ever heard of a case of whatever it is ever failing?

I meant you can take down the gun without THIS tool... you can use whatever else you get your hands on.

I know of at least one guy at work that "stripped" part of the bulge. It was his mistake as he didn't put it in properly and forced it in, the tool still hold but it doesn't lock as firmly as before.

as for the fit between the tool and the frame, that could be just me... but I really don't like it.

If you have an M&P without the magazine disconnect, you can use the trigger pull method like Glocks IIRC. But when you have the mag disco. It’s kind of hard to release the sear without a mag in the gun, thus the sear release lever.

Personally it's never an issue for me, I can't fit my sausage fingers down there but I always have a small screw driver in my range bag or on my cleaning table. And then if I really need it, I always have the "tool" that holds the back strap on. Mines been on and off lots of times and still fits nice and tight.

Its really a none-issue, you're just reading more into than need be.
