You don't really need anything special. 3/8" wrench, set of Allen keys and a few flat bladed screw drivers. Of course the specific tools and accessories are nice to have. You'll likely collect them.

That's what I'm talking about. Start with the stuff from Princess Auto / Rona / Home Depot / Home Hardware / Cambodian Tire/ Dollar Store. Get stuff like:

* Masking tape
* Allen Key set both Metric and SAE
* Hammers (variety of them like rubber mallet, wooden, steel, ball peen, jewellers, brass, delrin)... bag of hammers! :)
* screw driver set, lots of flat blades, different sizes (rear sight windage knob, elevation knob, prying Norc knobs off 'cause they are Krapola)
* 3/8" box end wrench (few of them from Dollarama or Dollar Tree)
* Pin punch set (now we need the hardware stores), spare pin punches smaller than 1/8" are really helpful (read: Brownells dot com)
* More screwdrivers, pliers, different punches
* 12 ga fired hull (punch out primer, drill out brass primer pocket enough to pass you shorter cleaning rod through it) Bore guide fits on Flash suppressor

Now you wanna get more serious after owning all the basics up above?

* M1 Garand combination tool
* Stock liner driver tool (Norc black plastic and USGI wood stocks and Boyd's Walnut stocks will need this)
* Castle nut pliers to access the front end of your rifle(s)
* Handguard clip pliers (to pull off the handguard clip for painting or tweaking your glass / or walnut handguard)
* Bolt disassembly tool when you have to pull your bolt apart for rebarreling purposes, headspace measuring, finish reaming
* Bolt roller greaser cup/tool, but you can make one from a .40 S&W brass case
* Grease syringes with curved tip, need the grease to fill that 12 mL syring with more grease
* M14 gas cylinder wrench, truly nice to have! :cool:

OMG... I'm drawing a blank. I've just unloaded my M14 and M1 Garand tools from the last M1 Garand Clinic I delivered in Sudbury, ON this past Sunday.... :)

Wanna get really, really serious?

* Action / receiver wrenches
* Vise jaw blocks
* Headspace gauges
* A second bolt disassembly tool (in case you break the first one like I just did)
* .308 Win Clymer finish pull through reamer ($200 upwards)
* Cutting oil for the chamber install
* parallels for you flash suppressor and rear sight horseshoe tang

Okay I gotta quit. I'm getting mind messed! :eek:

Cheers and keep helping them nooobies out there! :wave:
