I just ordered my first black rifle, a Norinco CQA M4 clone. Will I need any specialized tools to strip it for its first cleaning? I have most of the usual shooting tools, screwdriver sets, brass punches/hammer etc.

No tools are required. If it is really tight a ball point pen can be helpful to pull the firing pin retaining pin.

Varsol is your friend on the first cleaning to get rid of that sticky corrosion prevention oil Norinco uses.

If you require specialized tools to clean a rifle then it's a failed battle rifle Geo. As others mentioned you just need a tip to push the take down pin.

Unless you want to take the thing completely apart, you don't require any tools.

To completely disassemble properly, you would require (at a minimum):

- Hammer
- Punch set (Brass and Steel)
- AR15 Barrel wrench
- Action Block
- Vice
- AR15 Stock wrench
- Flat head screw driver

A 4 pound hammer, a chop saw and a scrap metal bin is all you need to strip a Norc down.
Just kidding. If you shoot at my range up in Squamish i think i know you. P.M me. I can give you an AR workout during the Christmas Holidays.

The Norc 3 point sling is fairly horrible but if you do a search on this forum you will find a thread or two about how it should attach and look. I'd like to say toss it and get a real sling but it might work for you fine.

As for take down, it's what the other guys said. You can also google it. You will find lots of video's on how it's done. Also google AR-15 manual. You should be able to find the US military manual that covers all in fairly simple terms.

Got the bullet, varsol and a bag of clean rags so I'm all set to enter the world of black rifles!

Welcome to the world of the AR (and the addiction) fun! You won't regret it. :D The only problem with the AR addiction is the ability to run nuts with your credit card and Magpul, Daniel Defence, LMT, ARMS, Noveske and all the fun zoot! Way cool! :p

I like playing with all the high speed furniture like Magpul MOE and discovering that I like the Magpul MIAD Basic grip, then I started from OD green color to Flat Dark Earth (all the parts) and switching back to OD green. All this was with Magpul gear and then by the time I finished, my trader rating shot up, whether I like it or not.

Some of the stuff works for YOU and some doesn't... so I move it along!

Hope this helps the addiction!

Cheers,
Barney
