Top 10 Canadian Calibers of all time.

When I was a kid, the only cartridges I ever heard of was:

30/06 Springfield
303 British
30-30 Win
22 LR (mushroom)
12 gauge

Come to think of it, there is no game animal in the Western Hemisphere that cannot be hunted with at least one of those cartridges. Looking at the number of years these cartridges have been around, they have all proven their worth time and time again.

Oh my, oh my, everyone is stuck on the quantity train.
Lets jump on the longlevity express.
The one and only .577 SNIDER ... 1867 - today ... love dat sulfur:D:D:D
Tip my hat tho if you've been out shooting your .50-60 Peabody recently.;)

I will give it a go based on my thoughts (which is not much)

22 LR
38-55
30-30
32 special
30-06
308
303
44-40
358
300 win mag

If there was 11 I would throw in the 270

Took in the oldies, some history to a few current ones

Here in NB it's what you can buy at Canadian Tyre or WalMart ....

22LR
223
22/250
270Win
7mmMag
30/30
308Win
30/06
303British
12ga
20ga

My feeling is, hunting rifle calbires only:
303
308
7 rem mag
300 win mag
338 win mag
30.06
30.30
270
35 whelan
300 weatherby

the short mags are coming along as well.

22lr is not a hunting cartridge for big game in BC
No idea on shotguns, don't have one!

Good point. I believe however, the original question didn't really even mention hunting, or more specifically big game hunting, just 'The most popular Canadian Calibers'.

To be absolutely correct, you can't include any shotgun guages, as they are guages, not calibers, and the top ten would be the most popular, having nothing to do with personal preferance. I would suspect that list is:
22lr
303 british
30-30
30-06
270win
308win
7mm rem mag
243win
223rem
300win mag
Possibly in no particular order.

Then perhaps this topic would have been be more suited in the General Firearms section instead of the Hunting and Sporting Arms section?

Less confusion that way. :)
