Top 5 NR Rifles. Go.

Wow, this list sure has changed since the thread was started.... a LOT of the good choices are no longer options. Of those remaining, these would be my suggestions/choices for a top 5

1/ ACR
2/ ATRS Modern Sporter with quality parts
3/ G36
4/ Famae 540/542, depending on what caliber you prefer
5/ X95/TAR21/Tavor7, depending on your caliber and ergonomic preferences

What do you suggest for people who haven't won the lottery yet?

What do you suggest for people who haven't won the lottery yet?
1- sks due to low price vs quality ($350-$450)

2- kel-tec rdb all around tactical bullpup around $1500

3. T97 bullpup around $1100 with imo very poor ergos

4. Fx-9 nice little 9mm around $1100-1200

5. X95/tavor/tavor7/acr/rfb/apc223 all hery nice and in the $2500-$4000 price range and most can only be found use right now.

I would say we are in a very sad state of affaire. With very little choice and alot of that choice behing slap together low quality guns , to expensive guns or use gun that owners are asking 150 to 200% over the price of new due to rarities.

Just curious if you would take the RDB over the X95 as bullpups go? I am looking at getting an X95. I handled a demo at the LGS a few months ago and love the ergonomics. I also heard it doesn't need to be meticulously cleaned. I do not know much about the RDB but I do have another Keltec product and quite like it. The RDB is also significantly less cost wise. I have never held one and none of my LGS have any.

A buddy of mine has both. RDB is nice, and he really seems to like it, but X95 is the better choice, in my opinion. X95 ergonomics are better. The inability to easily check and clear any malfunctions is a big strike against the RDB for me, and is the same reason why I sold my RFB a few years ago.

ALL the good options are likely to disappear forever if the legal challenges fail.
For all you guys with Modern Sporters ATRS is fighting for YOUR information to stay private, your guns to returned to NR status from the unlawfully altered FRTs they now have.
This legal action is costing a bundle and ATRS NEEDS our help to fund this fight. Please help them and yourselves.

100% agree. All of the choices I suggested are soon to be gone if we fail....

To clarify what was guiding my list was affordability since I was responding to a question. I think the x95 a probably preety good, I am in doubt about the accuracy since many shooter reported really poor grouping but function wise they are very rugged. I have never shot either honestly but I have shot an owned an RFB before and it was really rugged always went boom and was quite accurate! If the rdb is anything like it it should be good to go. One weakness of tge rfb was changing ammo as the gas can and should be set for every different ammo you use. If that is done or you dont junp around it was really good. I should do more reading up on rdb review but I think they are pretty good. For a 1000$ less and better accuracy even if it doesn't have the same pedigree I would personally go with the kel tec.

The other factor perhaps worth consideration is the after-sales support. I find sometimes with a good gun, a company that can back it and responsive and will resolve problems - that can make a good gun a great gun. I got another gun earlier this year and was talking with some CGNers about it, and a few of them who have the same gun indicated that emails and calls to the company yielded slow to little response. I know this is a really bad example, but some may liken it to Apple. Even though I have one, their iPhones are generally overpriced and functionally there are some things that Android phones do better. But people love the after sales support - some of their warranty processes are extremely well known and for a lot of people who are not tech savvy, they may appreciate that extra touch and pay more for that service, whether they can walk into that Apple store or do everything online with a process that pretty much automated.

Short of the service aspect, it would be interesting for people to give an opinion on their top 5 list of NR based on several criteria, such as what are the top NR black rifles with which people have had the least amount of problems. Or the top 5 that require little maintenance and even a notice can take it apart and clean it etc. As one poster already mentioned, a list of guns that many people can't afford may not be representative of the general sentiment towards what is considered a "top" gun.

I guess there is no resource like a Consumer Report on firearms...

Nothing is better than an AR-10 in the SA world of rifle. After a winter of shooting mainly 308, i have made a constatation.

The Tavor 7 is on par for accuracy, reliability and especially the fun factor with the AR-10. Definitively the most impressive SA NR 308 rifle i have bought in the last 5 years. JP. YMMV.

Guess I have to adjust my list, now that the Bren2 is available...

1/ a Bren2 in each caliber, 5.56 and 7.62x39
2/ ATRS Modern Sporter with quality parts, if you can find one
3/ G36, again, if you can find one, OR an SL8 if you're into a heavier bench version
4/ ACR, yet again, if you can find one
5/ X95/TAR21/Tavor7, any or all depending on your caliber and ergonomic preferences

Red rifle. Not considered a "black and green rifle". Same reason the Vz58 isn't anywhere on this list.

...although now that I read through the thread, I see guys WERE putting SKSs, Vz58s, shotguns, and various PCCs in the thread, none of which belong in a thread in the 'Black and Green Rifles" section. So, WTH, I guess anything goes. Bring on the T81s!

if we can go with the prohibs from the oic the ar15 is still a great choice followed by tar21 for me and t81 that will make 3 only.
