Top 5 things you would do to a M-305

That is one fine lookin' rifle. Very nice job. :dancingbanana:

#1 - Trade it in for an M1A :nest:

my frist m-14 was a older norc. built with all GI parts. i picked it up for $600 with close to 2000rds of hand loads. that rifle worked great and always worked. i now have a older m1a built with all GI parts and this rifle works great. i sold the norc about 5-6 years ago and with in the last year got the m14 bug back. picked up a m14e2 a.r.sales (work of art) then went after a shooter, my springfield m1a. also a work of art. they are all good rifles and with my limited time with the m14 type rifle i must say the norc is the best way to start off your m14 sickness. but don't crap on the springfield as they are a very nicly built receiver as well.

This is what I did immediately to my Norc 2007 series M14.....

* swapped out elevation and windage knobs for M1 Garand parts( I'm an iron sights shooter)
* installed a USGI glass stock (JB Weld'ed the FA parts cutouts)
* replaced op rod spring guide for Rauch Tactical, Marstar.ca, or Tartan Tactical (take yer pick)
* replaced chinese flash suppressor with USGI version (bayonet lug addict speaking to you) ;)
* shimmed the gas cylinder assembly while I had knocked the XZhinese flash suppressor off.
* Greased the trigger sear (smooths it right up) and then all bolt lugs, raceways and metal wear ares... Just go and have a look at YOUR M14 for the metal on metal areas. Not hard to spot.

whoops, you asked for 5. I might have exceeded that.... I forgot to include: Buy a 2nd Norc/Poly M14 for these reasons:

* Because we can (not unlike Xhinese law / policy of having only ONE child ;)
* spare parts
* prevent #### from falling off
* spend $ 1000ish give or take and still have more than half of a Springfield M1A :D

Future tweaks?

* Weld the front band to the gas cylinder
* glass bed the rifle in USGI glass stock
* drop in USGI HR bolt, because I have one here  And I ain't selling it to any of youse!! :)
* install National Match hooded aperture (I was an NRA High Power Service Class competitor in Sharpshooter Class) but leave knobs at 1 MOA per klik (not the NM spec of 0.5 MOA per klik, lots cheaper that way)
* Buy reloading components and make up a zhitload of practice ammo
* Shoot in the ORA's Service Rifle program with Timk and myself
* pick up fired brass and send me 3 of them to mic/measure your headspace :D
* Clean rifle and wait for the zombie invasion (along with Will Smith & german shepherd pooch)

Cheers all!

Peace out!

Barney

Assuming you already cleaned out cosmo.

1. Shoot it
2. Don't worry about indexing as I am using a scope but rather bump shoulders on 1x fired brass 1 thou for custom brass chambered for your rifle
3.Bed action and watch groups shrink
4. Install match op rod guide, op rod spring watch groups shrink
5. Shoot it more, figure out a way to keep it cool whilst shooting 5 round bursts as quick as you can load your mags.

1. Marstar Gas lock front sight
2. Marstar stainless op rod guide spring guide
3. Shorten Barrel to 18.5"
4. Dlask Vortex style flash hider
5. Buy my UTG rail in the EE? ;-)

Ok, I have to ask, why just 5 things?

6. Re-stake the op rog guide.
7. Thorough greasing of op rod channel, bolt roller, front band, receiver, etc.
8. Turner AWS sling (awesome sling)
9. Tighten the gas system
10. Check headspace and purchase USGI bolt if required

11. Learn to field strip it:

Hey, talking about field stripping. Anyone have problems with the safety spring? The little U shaped spring that holds the safety always slips and I once I engage and release the safety it slips sideways and I lose the safety.

Stupid, stupid.
