Just bought mine. AyA #53 Sidelock double 12 ga. With 28" barrels, bored IC and IM, balance and function as an upland bird gun is perfection. It has all the usual "best gun" details like exquisite hand engraving and hand fitting & finish and beautiful walnut. In a proper fitted oak & leather case. It is not the most expensive gun out there, but is arguably one of the best, even though it is labeled "affordable" in some circles. I'd actually rather shoot it than an H&H.

Made everything in house. He recently retired as did Hartmann & Weiss.
Peter Nelson, Hartmann & Weiss and Canada’s own Martin Hagn all worked together earlier in their careers.
Save your pennies. The vintage SxS market is tanking in England. It is the combination of the rise of O/U as the configuration of choice combined with the European move to completely ban lead pellets. In the next 5 years we will see prices on vintage SxS by the Big Four (Holland, Boss, Purdey and Woodward) along with all the rest, that we never imagined possible. Already happening.

Having shot Purdey over and under guns I can say that as shooters I feel they are over rated and over priced, but if money was no object then of course I'd have to have one just becuase the workmanship is as close to perfection that can be had. As shooters, there's not that many older guns that I'd be interesting in but I've been very happy with Beretta target guns, Perazzi's, Superposed's and Caesar Guerini's in general and not nessesarliy in that order. So as well as an ASE-90 sporting with optima barrels, guess I'd need another trap gun, a Beretta SO something should work for that, I'd also have a B-25 Superposed made to order, maybe an Mx-2000 20 guage matching pair for dove shooting in argentina, definately a David Brown in 28 guage for sharptails, a Purdey sxs in 20 guage for phesants. Of course these would be in adition to the guns I already have....

Only small lies ;-) I'd rather admire a Holland and Holland, and would certainly appreciate its finer artistic details, but it would bother me too much to risk such superb artistry to the hazards of regular use in the field. I'm a hunter first and a gun nut second. My guns must serve regular field duty or they are not of lasting interest to me. I sometimes need the option of setting my beautiful shotgun gently on the grass to receive a retrieve from my dog. And walking through thorny brush is a regular occurrence on my hunts. So, out of respect for the object of art, an $8000 AyA is a better fit for my interests than an $80,000 H&H.Don't get me wrong, I love your shotgun. But, you're tellin lies now ^^^
For a sporting Clay gun probably a custom Browning B25, 12 gauge with 30" pipes.
Upland gun 20 gauge exposed hammer side by side, Beretta Diana with 28" barrels.
Waterfowl gun, hard to beat the new Beretta A400 xtreme plus.
High volume walk around pigeon, dove gun, Benelli Ethos Cordoba.

I know. I cant wait. Add to the fact that not many younger shooters want old double guns with short chambers and fixed chokes. The baby boomers are getting to the age where guns will be changing hands soon. They may continue to depreciate under my ownership but ill get the experiences of using them and that will justify the cost for me
I was aware of david mckays browns work with beretta but that was about it. Ive seen some of his guns on auctions though
