top of the line 22 ammo

Remmington=crap (dirty and inconsistant), some Federal is ok (game shok HV), CCI Mini-Mags IMHO are some of the best ever in my 2 .22's

Buy a box of as many brands as you can and try 'em. No two firearms will shoot the same ammo the same way. Plus, if it's a target pistol, the ammo will also have to cycle the action as well as be accurate. The cost of said ammo means nothing either. .22's are just like that.

+1

22's are very picky about ammo. Because of the way 22LR is made all kinds of variations can be built in. Check over at rimfirecentral for info. Some guys with match guns get better accuracy with Federal bulk packs than with match ammo.

You may find results vary with even the most expensive ammo. Buying expensive ammo may not be buying you better results.

I'd try a bunch of different stuff, starting from least expensive including the domestic mfg's standard velocities and some of the lower end Lapua's, Eley's, Fiocchi and such. Hopefully if you find something affordable that shoots in your particular gun you can scoop a whole case of that lot #.

Fooled with some Fed gold metal match, cci green tag and elly tenx in my gun you could see the difference, but match ammo (the high end stuff not green tag) will make you think HMR is cheap $20 or more for 50. But as the other said buy and try as much as you can.

CCI Mini-Mags are an excellent round for constant firing. and, should you choose to hunt w/ it, is also good for anything up to coyote's (don't listen to people who tell you you can't hunt w/ a .22LR, and if you do, to use CCI Stingers). many locals have dropped many a coyote w/ a well placed Mini-Mag. furthermore, the Stinger is also a great round, but is 1/10" longer than the other standard .22LR's, so it is not to be fired in match chambers.

sorry to go off topic.

The most consistant round that I've found is PMC match rifle. It won't work too well with a lot of semi's though. Remington's target is pretty dirty, I've found eley to be the same. Federal gold medal isn't too bad in my 10/22

Is it for a rifle or pistol? my sw 41 loves the remington green box s**t. Shoots tiny little group, even though I get about 5% failures:eek: ie fails to shoot. as mentioned earlier buy a box of each, go with the cheapest that gives decent results.
