So what if it does? There's no prize money on the table, and people must post pics of their guns along with their targets. Obviously a target AR should be more accurate than an XCR with irons. Who cares?

Screw categories, screw worrying about results, just shoot. There are no prizes, unless you count "being listed on page 1" as a prize.

Are you serious? That would put a full target AR with a 5-25 S&B in a target sled up against an XCR with a 1-4. It will make a difference.

This is not complicated, cgn has had these kinds of comps before. Make it max 5X magnification (scopes can be dialed down) and no bipods. Shoot off bags.

And just to illustrate what can and can't be done I will do it prone with glove, I won't set any records but the groups will still be decent.

1- Yes I'm serious, this is just a fun challenge. I fully expect to be out shot by a full target AR when I'm using my 12.5" piston system AR. We are all free to use any gear we choose so if you want to take things that seriously go ahead and use your super duper AR with huge target scope and handloads you've been tailoring for 3 years. I won't be crying if you shoot a tighter group than me but please don't start calling others cheaters or making up excuses if someone out shoots you with a 14.5" Norinco ;)

2-Your right, this is not complicated so don't try to make it complicated. Great idea about the bipods since shooting off of bags pretty much always gives better groups anyway.

3- So you are a master shooter that is going to disadvantage yourself to make it fair for the rest of us? Prone is probably the best position to shoot from especially if you use bags so go ahead and we will all freely shoot from any position we are comfortable with as long as it's 100 yards away from the target.

4- No thanks, I like it the way the OP has laid it out so far. Nice and simple and just a friendly challenge to get us out shooting and to take some pics of the results.

We will see how many results we get, and if there is a demand we will separate the iron sights from magnified. I am going to allow the use of bipods, bags or whatever else you use. This is just about seeing that the best groups you can shoot with your rifle in an accuracy type situation. Hopefully some others share their results soon. Thanks guys.

I've done it! And being in the first 10 entries, I must be in the top 10!! ;) seriously though as soon as there are 11 entries I'll be out of the top 10, so I might as well celebrate while I can :popCorn: I did 2 sets of four, 5 shot groups. I will "enter" my first set of 20 shots. I know it is no where near 1 moa, but hey, someone has to make everyone else feel better :)

I used my Swiss Arms Classic Green, with an EoTech 552 sitting on top. I was prone, shooting from my Swiss' bipod. I was shooting Hornady Superformance 53 grain V-max's. The target was 100 paces away (which is generally 95-105 yards away), in one of my fields. I shot both of my 20 shot targets within about 15 minutes, to give a gauge of barrel cooling for those interested in that.

My gun:

Average group size was a whopping 2.209", which quite honestly I am happy with. I measured from the outside edges of the 2 furthest holes, then subtracted bullet diameter of .224". I am assuming that is the correct method.

Excellent groups for a non magnified entry. I print very similar groups with my Iron sights at 100m but they are rarely if ever tighter than 2 inches. Your groups are very impressive for a non magnified optic.....to say the least

Looking at your target I am not sure if you have a "flyer north" of the first group (top left of paper), it looks to me like one of the holes is slightly larger than the other three, maybe you snuck 2 rounds through the same hole ...
 
Went out today but it was really windy so I only took pics of the best 5 shot from each rifle.

First is the best 5 shot group from the Swiss Arms classic green flat top 1:7 twist at 100yds with 55gr American Eagle black box shot off a rest placed just in front of the magwell and shot fairly quickly with no time given to cool between shots using a Specter DR on 4 power. All groups today were in the 2.5-3 inch range.

Next was the PWS MK112 12.5" stainless barrel button rifled 1:8 twist at 100yds with the same ammo same rest same fire rate using a Hi-Lux 1-4 CMR on 4 power. Groups are usually in the 2-2.5 inch range with this ammo. The flyer top right was my fault and I knew it was bad before I even checked the target.

That's respectable considering the 4x magnification is a 1.5MOA center dot on the specter dual role. Good job.
 
I am going back out probably on Sunday or Monday, I will try again and see if I can replicate or beat my last attempt. Hopefully some others post their results as well.

Just one of those bad shots where you know it was bad as soon as you pull the trigger. I was making fairly quick strings and that was one I should have taken an extra second or two to settle back in and make sure I was on target properly. It was so windy that I wasn't expecting much for groups so I wasn't really trying to hard.
Next time out I'll be trying some better ammo and will hopefully print some tighter groups.
Raining here today so the range trip is cancelled :(
