Hey CGN,

I'm looking at purchasing a 45 acp semi sometime in the near future and I have an idea of where to start, but I don't want to rule anything out.

I'm looking for something with good ergos, not too bulky at the grip, and reliably strikes and feeds cartridges. Something that holds 10 rounds is a plus.

What's your top three and why?

Glock 21, Smith and Wesson M&P .45, SIG P220. They're the only 3 non-1911 .45's I've fired, and I like them all. M&P fits great. Glock is the accessory king. P220 trigger isn't for everyone, but I shoot SIGs well and the ergos are real nice as well.

HK45, Sig P220, CZ 95, in no particular order.

HK45, as it was designed by the 1911 guys, who love the 1911 platform and wanted to make it better. Pretty hard to beat anything made by HK. Soft shooting, very accurate, adjustable backstraps so you can get it to naturally point making accurate shooting effortless. Its a great pistol in everyway.

Sig P220, arguably the best duty 45 ever made. not much else to say other than time has been on its side, as with time, it has only proven itself over and over again to be a great pistol in every way.

CZ97, many folks do not realize that CZ's are the most popular Government issued pistols in the world. They are simple, reliable, and very very accurate. In my opinion they are some of the most underrated pistols on the planet.

My $0.02, which is just that 2 cents. To be honest, the best thing to do is buy one, if you don't like it, sell it and buy something else. cycle through a few and buy back your favorite one. works every time. These are not expensive items, and are easy to buy and sell.

Glock 21 never belongs in a list of guns that are supposed to have good "ergos" and not be "too bulky". Mp 45, sig 220 and maybe the hk from what I hear, but I have no hands on experience with the hk.

Echoing what many others have already said... My personal Top 3 would be S&W M&P45, SIG Sauer P220, and an HK (HK45 but also USP45 or Mk 23).

4th place for me is prob Glock 21SF and many people say many great things about the CZ97s

The jericho comes in 45ACP. Nice ergonomics and by far the best value out of all pistols mentioned so far @ $599.

Awesome, all the responses pretty much reflect what I already have in mind. These were the three I had in mind.

M&P45: I'm thinking this one tracks better and shoots softer than other 45s because of the low bore. I haven'tt held one in my hand yet, but I know that it is a little bigger than the M&P 9/40.

HK45: I've read that this one isn't too bad with recoil, but I've also read that it's harder to track the sights between shots. I also dont know if I would prefer the DA/SA or the light LEM. This would be a great gun to math my other half as I just bought her a P30L. $

P220: This sounds like a great gun all around, but the mag only holds 8(?) rounds. I've also read complaints about the finish. Also $.

This is just my impression of the guns, am I on the right track?

In order of useability - HK45, M&P45 and Sig 220.
In order of value - M&P45, Sig 220 and HK45

The HK and Sig may have the issue of a DA/SA transition (the HK dependent on variation) if that bugs you.

As far as the grip size goes, the M&P45 is maybe a sixteenth larger than the 9+40 - it's a very marginal difference.
