Im looking to buy a new handgun, preferably a 1911. But i'm stuck on a few models, I dont know which one to choose. Maybe you guys can help me out.

These are the ones I have in mind.
Norinco Np30N ( Nickle plated )
Why: Because it's cheap, and because I wouldnt mind having a nickle plated gun.
Why not: Because its Chinese ( long term reliability, I get paranoid ), and because of its double stack magazine ( which is not very common )

Para Ordnance GI Expert
( I heard its a good company? )
Can anyone tell me anything about this gun?

STI Spartan
Also heard this is a good company,
can anyone tell me anything about this gun?

To add further to this dilemma, I am also considering a Beretta 92fs, because its a 9mm, and because I'm always on a bit of a budget, and reloading is not an option for me right now. But then again I dont shoot more than 3 times a month...

So what do you guys think?

get the norinco. I bought one a few months back. no complaints. for the price(less then half the price of some makes) you cant go wrong. then put the saved money into ammo or another gun?

edit

The norinco i bought is the standard mil spec model. i don't know much about the NP30N. but mine i have no complaints with. I cant possibly see how any other gun can be double(or more) the quality of my norinco 1911

For the 1911's....

Norc double stack would be my last choice..... I'd go for an Armco tuned single stack Norc 1911A1 any day of the week, though.

Para GI.... I'm not a Para fan, so I'd pass on that one.

Spartan [via Armco] hands down of all the choices.

The Beretta FS 9mm is a nice pistol make sure it fits your hand & you are comfortable shooting it before commiting to buying it, though. I have hands on the larger size but I don't find the Beretta as nice to shoot as the BHP MkIII or the CZ 75/85 series. And I've owned a number of Beretta 92 series over the years.

Beretta for sure. Why? it's a quality made gun and a design that is 100% reliable and doesn't need to be fiddled with. plus 9mm is cheaper to shoot!

If you want a 1911 I would recommend Taurus 1911

Could you care to explain why the Taurus 1911 ?
It's a loaded 1911 with forged frame slide and barrel and Novak sights :) IIRC Spartan is cast and made by armscore in Philippines... Also if you like plated you probably like Stainless guns, you can get PT1911 in SS but not the Norinco or Spartan.

Edit: you can see mine in the sig pic next to Beretta.

I would go for the Spartan first. I am not into double stack 1911's. Seems to be a bit of blasphemy to the design. I have had a number of Colt 1911 and have two to my name right now. Really like them. I have also had Norinco 1911's and have put countless rounds down their pipes and have never had a problem. Even their cheap mags seemed to work well with ball ammo.

From your list I'd pick the STI for it's high quality. I'm not a fan of the 92 so I'd recommend a CZ for your 9mm. Col. Jeff Cooper once called the CZ75 one of the best handguns in the world except for the 9mm part. My preference is a Colt Government series 70 or converted series 80 in 45ACP. A Combat Commander is even better, but that's just me.

The new Spartans are coming in 9mm as well as .45ACP. A great looking, great operating and well priced gun shooting an affordable cartridge. Sounds like a winner to me.

THe Spartan's frame is cast but the slide is forged.

Dont want to hijack or anything but, whats the difference between Cast and Forged?

One better then the other?

I just bought a STI. From all the searching around for a 1911 I'd say they are you best bet if you want Quailty at a reasonable price. Not to mentions you can scream out "This is Sparta!" while your blasting down range.

Forged means it's been machined to shape from a solid piece of forged metal while cast means the metal has been shaped by being poured into a die to form it. Forged metal is generally stronger. Cast metals can have imperfections if not done right.

I bought a spartan, and was not happy with it. I ended up returning it. It was minor stuff, like the grip safety not functioning, and the slide not wanting to release, after ejecting an empty clip. Call me picky, but I've never had that problem with a colt, or springfield.

There must've been something really wrong with that particular gun then, STI is good stuff!!
