I am in the market for my first AR. Planing to get into 3g next summer. I am of the school to buy once cry once. I have been looking at the Stag 3G and the DDM4V7. In the used market they seem to sell for fairly similar prices, depending on the options.

Right now I am leaning towards the Stag because it comes with a stainless match barrel and a Geisele 3-gun trigger with a 3.5lb pull.

I am having a hard time finding any specific specs in the DD trigger.

Anyone out there have any experience with both rifles?

Thanks for looking

I bought a Colt Canada so can't speak directly to those but your methodology is sound. You should have no problems with either gun. You get what you pay for.

I have a DDM4V5. Love the rifle and it's still stock out of the box. I was surprised how gritty the trigger was when I first got. Let some other club members try it out and they felt the same way. It smoothed out after 150-200 rounds and I feel it is more than suitable for 3 gun, etc.

I got to play with a FN manufactured AR that came factory with a Timney Competition trigger. It was incredible compared to my DD trigger. I won't upgrade my trigger for 3 gun as my shooting position, shooting on the move and sometimes lack of oxygen getting to my brain are much bigger factors than a slightly stiff trigger compared to competition triggers.

If I was using a heavy barrelled AR for precision rifle I would likely upgrade the trigger.

that stag 3g is a very sweet gun buddy!
but the competing product would be a dd mk12 not the ddm4v7

or build your own mk12 with what you love, like what I did here:

for 3gun just swap out the optic for an acog or elcan specterdr

Having the S3G trigger already installed in the Stag makes me lean towards that over the DD...for 3 gun competition, the DD triggers suck so if you go that way, budget $300 extra for the S3G if you really are a buy-once-cry-once guy.

And on the buy-once-cry-once note, you might want to consider the Colt Canada MRR. The 16" version allows you to travel to the states to compete if you ever decide to go down that road and if I was jumping into the AR game right now with an eye on 3gun it would be on my short list for sure.

The 16" barrel for the states is part of why I was looking at the 18" barrel.

I wouldn't say the DD triggers suck, just they're a nice mil-spec trigger, not a fancy aftermarket.

That said, you could buy the DD and spend the difference on a Geiselle SSA or the like.

Can't lose either way...

If you really want a 3gun AR and want to buy once, cry once, the answer is a JP with lightweight BCG (plus the adjustable gas block and captured spring system to go with it).
