Torque screw driver

Can anyone recommend a good torque screw driver for mounting scopes and stocks that is a step up from the wheeler fat wrench but not triple the cost. I know you get what you pay for with stuff like this but what would is the best bang for the buck us diy guys.

What do you find for pricing on the FAT wrench ?
Amazon.ca has them very reasonably priced, although everyone's idea of reasonable is different
 
I "went large" and got the specific t-handle wrench for 25in/lbs IIRC from Brownells, the important ones are the rings, you can get away without a torque wrench on the base screws, depends on how "fussy" you are?

Wholesale has them on sale now for $45 which is very cheap imho but reviews don't rate them very well. I don't mind spending more to get something that is accurate and doesn't fall apart.
 
I have a Wiha brand that I bought off Amazon. It wasn't cheap but wasn't terribly expensive and has been very reliable. Four years on with intermittent use and it is still every bit as consistent as the day I bought it.

You may be right, I took the leap and bought one, paid 70.00 or so on Amazon, used it for 2 guns only, no issues though.
Maybe I was lucky and got a good one or perhaps I've not used it enough yet.......
 
I been using one off and on for about 2-3 years. No issues. I know if you leave it under tension stored (not bring it back to 0) it will screw up the mechanism. I also found if you are just mounting a scope when you use two finger tightening method it will get you to around 25 inch pounds and you don't need to spend 70 or so dollars. ;) ;) ;)

The Wiha ones are fine to unscrew with as they increase torque by 50% when reversing. You can leave them in the middle of the adjustment range, just not at one end of the or the other.

At $36.99 USD plus shipping plus exchange one should jump all over the WS offer.
Mine has been in use for 3 years plus.
Wheeler also has a screwdriver kit with addition bits . . . do not try to unscrew with the torque driver!

Simple is good and tight with a normal screwdriver... and it works.

A whole new industry has developed supplying torque drivers we don't really need...
 
The gunsmith tool market is so small compared to the larger tool market that it may as well be insignifcant. There are plenty of cases where action screws need to be torqued to a specific measurement for repeatability. The CZ455 comes to mind.

If you're torquing down the rings for an expensive scope, 50-100 dollars for a torque screwdriver might save you a crushed tube.

Sorry but that's not repeatability. I suppose it's just the engineer in me, but I'd like to know exactly what torque setting it is fastened to especially if the manufacturer gives a recommended torque setting. I rather spend 120$ more on a tool to assemble a 500$ mount and a 4000$ dollar scope, a screwdriver isn't going to cut it.
