Torturing Myself!

I would (and did) go for a Sig P226 in 9mm. The .22LR conversion will likely not be as cheap as it sounds at first. You would be relying entirely on the difference in cost between .22LR and 9mm to offset the cost of the conversion kit. You would have to put a lot of rounds through the gun before you have saved enough to cover what you have spent on the conversion kit. (Right now, the .22 conversion kits are $299 at Cabelas. That means that you would have to shoot enough to save $299 in ammo.) If you can buy .22LR for $5/50 and 9mm for $15/50, you will save $10 for every 50 rounds you shoot. That means that you won't see any savings until you have shot 1500 rounds of .22LR. It is only after this point that you start seeing a single cent of savings.

Safest bet ... get the one that feels the best in your hand.

Getting the .22 pistol, then the 9mm conversion is cheaper than getting the 9mm and then the .22 kit afterwards. Only really makes sense to do it in this order if you plan on having both at some point.

Don't buy both at the same time. Get one and figure out what you like and don't like.

Also check out the Cz line up. I originally wanted the sig 226 but I'm leaning towards an sp01 shadow now. The tactical sport seems great too. I like the finish on the sigs better but I think the cz trigger pull would be worth the trade off.

Do you like double action/single action, single action only or striker fire? Have you considered a .22 like the buckmark or ruger mk 3? If you have a range near you that rents guns it would be ideal.

The Shadow has got to be the best 9MM pistol out of the box.. One sweet shooter and very easy to get used to..

Go to Wild West or Phoenix and rent a few different pistols to try out. Then you won't be stuck with something that felt good in the store, but doesn't work well during use.

Hey Tauren
I'm currently enjoying a hot n heavy love affair with my Sig p226 Elite Dark 9 :).....New to the forum hence why I don't have a photo of my "lover" She feels great in the hand, minimal muzzle flip, has front checkered serrations on the trigger guard to wrap a finger around with opposite hand for more a more solid grip. But since this gun is so solidly built, the flip is minimal. I've only been out to range with it 2x since I bout it because of our cold weather :( . I live in Ottawa so I've signed up w the Eastern Ontario Shooting Club and have a range orientation at the end of the month...after that, my love affair (wife would be jealous if she knew of this affair), will be back on track...ahem....k back on track

Since I would consider myself a "Sig Sauer fan-boy" I'd recommend the Sig......HANDS DOWN ! ! ! And if you wanna go further, I'd give serious consideration to the MK25, the Navy Edition. This one is the bee's knee's :p
H&K is also a good choice... decisions decisions huh...
hint; buy your wife something nice to soften the blow of buying both guns...because I'm sure many other guys will agree here, "It's easier to ask for forgiveness, than it is for permission"......right guys?
Good luck with your acquisition.

As I anxiously wait for my RPAL to come in the mail, I decided to take a trip to P&D to look around. Was looking at the SIG 226......so lovely.
Then I checked out the H&K P30L. Beautiful and just fits the hand so well. I think my wife would have been jealous the way I was fondling those 2 fine pistols. Now I have a harder decision to make....
.22 SIG 226 or 9mm H&K P30L.
Would like to purchase both at same time......
Decisions Decisions!
My poor wallet :(

have you checked out the Sig 226 X-five? now that is one beautiful gun...but rather cost prohibitive....
The X5 Allround, Xpress, or Tacops are not too bad at less than 2k and there are some around for that.

Sig and CZ are totally different animals so worth trying both if you can before taking the plunge.

Take a peek at a Walther PPQ. I don't have one but everything I've read has been extremely positive; top of the market for ergonomics, accuracy, and reliability. I'm adding one to my own list.

Good luck making your decision :)

The only thing I have against the PPQ is that I find it has a lot of muzzle flip. First shot is excellent but it takes a while to get back on target.

Gonna have to take a trip to Phoenix and shoot the 226,and the CZ.
Maybe if I'm lucky they'll have the HK P30 and PPQ.
Would like to make a decision on one of them....for now. :)
Want to start on a .22.......which is why I'm leaning towards the sig.
