Ok, so I'm trying to get this scope here:

scout_vx2_1_5x_40_angled-tfb.jpg

It's their new VX-II 1.5-4x28mm variable power scout scope and it's only available through their custom shop. Well I called the Canadian distributor and they said that it doesn't exist, they've never heard of it so no I can't get one. This, of course, pissed me off. I replied "Au contraire, it does exist. I just read a review of the darned thing." So I called Leupold themselves and they said that the distributor is wrong and that it is available. They said they would contact the distributor and sort it out but I still haven't heard anything yet.

What the hell! Get your sh*t together already!

...end of rant.

***UPDATE***
Well after repeated calls, the Canadian distributor says they don't order custom shop items. Sure wish they would have told me that one of the five times I called them.

I'm now communicating with EuroOptics to see if they can nail one down and export it to me.

Seems like importing depleted uranium would be easier than getting this darned thing.

I want the same scope myself after having read about it. I already have the 2.75x fixed scout, but this one would add some versatility to my M1A.

The Leupold website Custom Shop has a notice that says they specifically do not deal in international sales at this time. That's likely due to the US export restrictions on optics and other "gun parts".

But please let us know if you are successful in arranging to order one. In fact, please PM me and I will add my order at the same time.

Well, I've exhausted every single resource I know. I'm completely out of ideas. Looks I'm up the creak on this one until Leupold adds to it their regular line, if ever.

it is an interesting little scope :)

instead of talking to the distributor, have you tried talking to one of the big scope retailers like P&D, perhaps if they get enough pressure they can convince the distributor to budge on them ?

Not yet. I've received a few PM's about trying Prophet River. Folks have nothing but good things to say so I'll pick his brain on Monday.

buy my mark 4. 4.5-14x50 with TMR reticle with rings for 1000 bucks. Problem solved, i think.:)

You remind me of the salesman that tried (really tried hard!) to sell me a used Honda Civic when I went in looking for a new full-size pick-up truck.

The OP wants a low-power, variable scout scope, not a 4.5-14x mounted on the receiver.

People this is what happens when there is a monoply in a market place. Service deminishes, Price increase & customer recieve less product selection. The problem should never be that a customer wishes to purchase a product from a company that produces said product. Only to be told no the main distributor will not bring this in for you & there for if you really want this product you have to for-go any warrenty and also break U.S. export laws just to recieve this product. Or option 2 witch is usally the most timely and costly option. Find an importer that has a valid licence and pay an extra cost on top of the actuall cost of said optic's then wait, wait & wait some more until all the paper work and government B.S. to get approved. Then wait some more for it to ship to you and lets not froget to pay yet again for not only the duty charges that apply but also and neat little cash grab B.S. called a brokerage fee. All in all this is just what 1 should expect when a company has a monoply in 1 market place.
On a side note I am sure glad we signed that all important "Free Trade Treaty" with our biggest trading partner. Damm you got to love how there spin doctors try to sell you all this smoke and mirror stuff. There smell always reminds me of my friends cow farm.

Check with Bruno's Shooters Supply. In the US but they will even assist you with the import/export paperwork. If Lester can get it he has all his eggs in line for international shipping - then everyone's happy ! Keep in mind though - if you bring the item in from a US vendor, Korth will NOT cover it for warranty - their agreement with Leupold.
Sadly I have found that the original mission statement by Leupold's founder is not being lived up to and the QA is dropping off. I have been a long time Leupold user and until they get back in the saddle I'll look elsewhere for optics.

Well ladies and gentlemen, Korth (the Canadian distributor) has changed their tune yet again. They went from "it doesn't exist" to "it exists but we don't do custom orders so you're SOL" and now I get this email:

"Mr. ######X

Thank you for your patience in regards to ordering a custom Leupold scope. In order to quote you accurately, we will require an exact description of the scope you are interested in. (model, finish, reticle etc.) Then we will need to know which authorized Canadian dealer you would prefer to purchase this item through. Once we have this information we can quote you a purchase price. Please keep in mind that any custom orders will have to be pre-paid and will be NON-REFUNDABLE. These orders have been known to take up to one year for completion and we cannot guarantee or estimate a delivery date. I will look forward to your reply."

I replied with this email:

"Good day,

The scope model is VX-II 1.5-4x28mm Variable Power Scout Scope. That is the model name and there is no part number as per the custom shop. I want it in matte black with a duplex reticle. Please refer to the links I've included for addition reference:

The dealer I would like to purchase through is Ramakko's in Sudbury, Ontario"

So it appears that there MAY be some light at the end of the tunnel. Will advise. Out

If anyone here would like to purchase this scope... my local dealer (CRAFM) would be willing to commit to an order (through Korth Ind.) for as many as needed providing a deposit is given.

Just throwing it out there.
