Total Noob question, re: AR restrictions in Canada

The receiver of a rifle (or frame of a pistol) is the only part of the firearm which constitutes as a firearm under the act. All other firearm parts are just... parts. Only the receiver requires a valid PAL for possession or acquisition. When firearm parts are sold separately from the receiver, no PAL would be required.

In the case of AR-15, which the receiver is separated into upper and lower components, only the lower receiver with the serial number stamped to the receiver is considered the "receiver" which registration and license are required.

Well isn't that splendid....Firearm's laws making sense, once again! :p (I knew it was like that before, just so you know. Just saying, it's ridiculous... the frame of a gun can't actaully hurt anyone...unless I beat someone with it...)

Alright, so thanks for clearing that up :)

My gun is completely assembled and has yet to harm anyone. What's your point?

That particular aspect or our law may have been 'borrowed' from US requirements to regulate the lower receiver (due the serial number and fire control group, which in some instances is full auto).

I meant that from the "defence's" point of view, like a fully assembled firearm is more dangerous than just the frame. I have fully assembled guns, I don't intend on hurting anyone. However, with a frame, I am 100% sure not to even accidentally shoot someone... (unless I go out of my way to build it up, and then I suppose it is dangerous).

Anywho, I see your point, just explaining what I meant. This whole registry and gun laws are a farce here (ATT's etc). That's my view, hope I'm allowed to have it ;)

You mean when they used to just be a rifle. Before they transformed into a scarey black demon.Yes i remember those days to.
