So I Bought a SKS off of someone in the EE forum. I recieved it on Tuesday.
I go to my gun club to try it out. I had shot maybe 6 rounds through it and poof. On the last round all I could see was smoke coming out of the action on the gun. The magazine and everything dropped right out on the ground.

Upon inspection I noticed the barrel had popped out about a quarter of an inch.

So after I get home I was looking at it a little more. It looks as though the barrel had been fixed before I bought it and it was welded or braised back in place. In the pic you can see were it broke. You can also see were the weld was ground down.

Needless to say I am totally pissed off. I am not going to sit by and let anybody get away with this. This gun was fixed to mask a serious problem and be resold. I could have been seriously hurt as could my nephew who was with me at the time. I am out $200. I will give the person who sold me the gun a chance to take it back and do the right thing. I fthat fails I believe it is time for legal action. I have several witness who were there when I was shooting it. Nobody could believe that someone would sell the gun like that.

What do you guys think.

I will strip the gun down for better pics.
 
Someone else sold a tampered/fixed gun a year or so ago.
He got a lifetime ban once the whole story came out.
BS like this could cause serious injury or even a death.
Besides the obvious injury/death issue, an incident like that would be really damaging to CGN. I'm going to post this in the Mod forum.
 
Refund for sure. Was it sold as a used gun? Was there a description on how many rounds were shot and such?

I ask as some sellers buy a gun on a whim and sell it without firing it ( straight to the safe and then sold off ).

Don't forget to add appropriate feedback as well.
 
If he sold you this piece of crap knowingly, and hid it from you , hoping that because you are fairly new here that you may know little about firearms, he should be tarred and feathered. :mad:

If by any very small chance( very small!!) , this guy bought it like this and never fired it or took it apart and sold it to you not knowing the problem, he better refund you ASAP.

If not, this is why we have the trader rating system, and use it accordingly to make sure no one else gets screwed by him.
 
Make sure you include "the crap gun he sold me blew up and almost killed me" so I can avoid him. I thought about buying a gun the other day in the EE. Decided to go with Trade Ex.
Was his trader level good or bad.

I hate to say it but I won't even consider the guys with (0) rating I don't have the money to waste. Course that leads to how do traders just starting out get a rating in the EE. :confused:

How is this an accident. Somebody fixed this to decieve someone else. PERIOD. I don't know who it was or why they did it but it ends with me.

In the last pic you can see how shiny the grinder marks are. It is a relativley new repair. You can also see were the barrel pin had been replaced or repaired. I will get better pics up as soon as I can. The seller had said he put 400 or 600 rounds through it I think. It blew on my 11th round. I shot 5 then I let my nephew shoot five. I reloaded and it happened on the next round.

I have not said who I bought it off because I will give him the chance to fix the problem. I am not in the habit of bashing anybody publicly.


I am in no way a newbie to guns. I have had a few SKS in the past and never had a problem before. Like us all though you buy and sell and buy and sell some more.
 
I think as this is now public, a few things need to be answered by both the buyer and seller.

1) Was the seller made aware of the repair?
2) If not, was the seller aware of the repair?
3) If not, who ultimately did the work. (Track back to the source)

Frankly, unless the answers come back as;

1) Yes, the buyer knew,
2) Or, the seller never fired/cleaned the gun and the "repair" was done prior to his purchase,

then I would expect the seller to be publicly outed and banned for life fromk CGN.

I'm trying to imagine a forgivable explaination, but one doesn't come to mind.

This is a known problem in one lot of SKS rifles, and the importer has made good on the problem by taking back the guns. There is no good excuse for this type of sloppy repair to such a cheap gun. It's not like trying to restore an irreplaceable relic. Ain't nobody out there so broke they can't afford to eat a $200 mistake if the alternative might kill someone.

Lever Arms brought in the version with the threaded recievers and adaptors to accept press fit and pinned barrels.
 
I would be pissed too, but you are doing the right thing to wait and get a explination from the seller. it would be interesting to here the results and reasoning.

glad you are ok, I hope the seller gets back to you if he does not it shows what type of person he or she is and you should seek full legal help.
 
It's nice to see that your giving the seller a fair chance to explain what he knew/didn't knew.
Unfortunately I can't see how he isn't to blame though.
 
The other Mods are aware of this now.
I just posted this in the mod forum. It is worth repeating here.

So far there is no proof of who did the repair.
It may be anywhere from a goofy military refurbish, to importer, to owner previous to the EE seller, to the final EE seller.
The truth will boil out soon enough.
 
Pinned barrels are fine as long as they don't have a threaded barrel brazed into them.

Also this is one of the main reasons why I take every new to me SKS, and any other rifle for that matter apart and give it a close look over before heading to the range with it. :eek:
