SS Division deployed on Eastern front. Soviet army order for all ss prisoners were to be shot at the back of the head.
^This is the best answer I think. I once had a book written about these "security divisions" that the SS employed in all of the slavic countries. I do believe they had at the peek about 13 of these divisions of troops guarding important vulnerable points such as railways/train stations/phone lines. And of course hunting down partisans with all of the commiserant attrocities that they committed on the guerilla fighters & the local innocent populace. I think most, if not all of them were of non-Germanic origin, but by politics were considered trustworthy enough for this important role.

Not all SS div's were hunting partizans or commiting atrocities(everybody, on both sides, did that). There was such a thing as the WaffenSS. Micheal Wittman and his Sturmpanzer for example.
The worst thing about collecting Nazi stuff is the proliferation of copies. Very good copies. Takes a real expert to tell 'em apart. They all look the same to me. Even the ones worn by the 17th Lancers.

Sorry to crash the party, but this skull is fake.

M1/122 is not even a real maker, so it's very easy to debunk this one.

The quality and craftmanship also does not compare to an original. The fake aging techniques are also pretty apparent on the front of the skull.

Over 90% of the german militaria I've seen on this site including the EE is not original.

I would suggest trying to get your money back if you bought this.

Sorry, but this is this is absolutely a bogus maker code for SS skulls.

There are original skulls with manufacturers code on the back, but not M1/122. This code is old well known code of reproduction/fake SS skulls.

You can post these photos on a more dedicated German militaria site if you'd like full piece of mind on the issue.

Judging from the numerous photos of SS officers in their hats and hat skull pin, the skull has a lower jaw visible as well, not just the lower teeth. This looks fake to me, but I am no expert.

The fact that it doesn't have a lower jaw doesn't necessarily mean that it's fake. The early SS skulls and panzer (armoured) skulls never had a lower jaw....but as Steve pointed out, the manufacturer in question is not legitimate. I noticed this before but didn't think it was my place to be the bearer of bad news.
