I really really like my savage mkII rifle, I bought the cheapest model they had just to try out a bolt action .22 and it's the gun I shoot the most out of the fifteen or so guns that I do own!
I had some mag feeding issues initially but it was because I was holding the magazine causing it to not align up just right inside making the rounds jam before they were chambered.
The only issue that I can see, and so far it hasn't effected anything at the moment is a small deformation of the bolt. There is a notch in the rear of the bolt (the part that is used to push cartridges into the chamber when you push forward) that stops the bolt from moving further back than normal. So when you release the bolt and pull back, it catches on purpose so that it does not fall out of the rifle. The only way to release it is to hold the trigger while pushing the bolt back to get it out.
It's this notch that stops the bolt from rearward movement that is becoming deformed, and I think it's just from maybe working the bolt to hard. The metal seems weak, and it could be just my rifle or it could be me, I have no idea. Would be interested to hear if anyone else see's this and if it becomes a problem down the road.
I want to buy another savage but I don't want this to be an issue 5000 rounds down the road and have to buy a new bolt.
Does the CZ 452/443 have this kind of issue?
Do the CZ bull barrelled rifles perform as the Savage bull barrelled rifles?
I'm not really concerned about how well one rifle is machined, as in tooling marks etc, but I want something that's built well.
If the issue I have with the savage is normal then no big deal, as of now I have not had any problems at about 2000 rounds. But if the CZ is built with a harder steel and is just as accurate I don't mind paying the extra money.
In the end what I'm looking for is personal experience with either guns, just tell me what you think of the gun you bought and if it has any issues etc.
thanks for your time, I do appreciate it.
