I have an opportunity to buy a used, mint condition Ruger #1 stainless laminate chambered in 458 Lott. The deal is $945 including tax and the rifle comes with nothing but rings. Dies run another $42 and lord knows 50 bullets cost about $80 and brass ????? Any thoughts would be appreciated in helping me decide.

Thanks:confused:

Unless Im missing somthing....458 diametre bullets will cost you nowhere near $80 for 50...unless your slaying vampires and using silver bullets.:D

oh yeah, forgot to tell you, I've got a bunch of cast 500 gr 458 bullets, and Im pretty sure I could borrow the cast to make more... :)

Price sounds okay, you sure you're okay with the weight of the gun and the recoil? You could use cast bullets at about $15/50 for Hard cast 480gr. WFN GC from MT Chambers.......at around 2000+fps it should slay dragons, and not be too hard on the shoulder or pocket book.

You will kick yourself in the ASS if you let this super cool gun slip through you fingers. I let a mint .338 m-700 lefty get away and still kick myself. The fact that I would love to fire this bad boy has nothing to do with my advice:D I find it so easy to spend someone else's money. Chilly, a giant swamp donky falling to the Lott, a story to be told to your grandchildren. I'll kick in $10 for my 3 shots:rolleyes:

Chilly Willy,
Go for it! One of the cool things about playing with used guns is that even if you find that it's not exactly your thing, you can usually break even by selling it again. Even losing a couple bucks to scratch an itch is a great deal, all considered. Besides, those #1s have a high "Fondle Factor";)

My 458 Win #1 is no pussycat, but it's not too harsh. The Lott will be stouter but components aren't that expensive, unless you go with super-premiums like A-Frames.
