tough desicision

Do I order a Tikka Hunter in 6.5x55 and wait (maybe 3 months) approx $800 or do I buy a Sako 75 in .260 rem. and take delivery right away approx $1200

I did have my heart set on 6.5x55 but the .260 is almost identical, any help from someone that has experience with either of these calibersor guns would be greatly appreciated.

I have had or currently have everything you mention in your post. I'd go with the Sako 75 in 260 rem. The 75 is a great gun (better than the 85) and the 260 rem is a great cartridge. I'm assuming you reload since you were considering the 6.5x55 so just load up some 120gr TSX in your 260 rem and call it done.

Is cost a consideration? If so, wait for the Tikka and put the 400 savings toward a scope. If not, Sako.

Both great cartridges. Performance variation between the two is pretty insignificant. I think it comes down to which rifle you prefer. Persoanlly I'd stay away from the Tikka 85. I find it difficult to remove the detachable mag - you need really small fingers to hit the mag release.

I like SAKO myself - especially if it has a nice wood stock. I've never been a fan of synthetic stocks - its personal preference and you're opinion of elegance and beauty.

Sako 75 all the way. My friend has a 75 SS in 260 and it shoots under an inch easy with just about any load

I don't know how set you are on a new rifle, but there are a lot of superbly made used rifles out there in 6.5x55 and well within your budget.

Why not a Tikka T3 in 260 Rem. Very good article in the May Issue of MAN Magnum. Superbly accurate, shoots 1MOA groups with Lapua 139 gr at 200 yds!

My vote is for the Sako as well. The .260 is a better cartridge for non-handloaders, IMHO.
DirtyOldSix, do you mean the rifle shoots 1 MOA (2 inch) groups at 200 yards, or that it shoots 1 inch (1/2 MOA) groups at 200 yards? That's a superbly accurate rifle, for sure.

I'm partial to the Tikka.........and here's why.....

I have a stainless synthetic Tikka Model 695 in 6.5x55mm that I bought a few years back NIB. Shoots sub 1" right outta the box with a great trigger just as is. I'm totally impressed.
