Tough. Long range optics?

Ok I know I'm going to get a $#!+ ton of people chimin in on this but I really want to hear from guys like myself.
I've always been a straight vx1 or 2 kinda guy.
Ive wraped rifles around trees, swam rivers and rolled down mountains. ....... did I mention they're attached to a thousand pound nag. Leupold are the only ones that survive.
I'm gettin older and am starting to play with long range optics. I've tried buddies turet guns and high quality optics. Zeiss Swarovski etc.
My question is. Will the turet scopes take the sh!+ kickin I'm going to put them thru or do I just go with an upper end Leupold with multiple reticle points.

Some of them are made for military use and are built stronger. That said, anything can be broken.

What do you need?
Locking turrets?
First focal plane?
Illuminated?
Tube diameter
What range you want to shoot? Need enough elevation adjustments to get there.
Do you want to use flip caps? NXS are great scopes for their price but the whole eyepiece rotate.
 
No Illumination.
800 yrds with a 300 mag.
Again everything else is dependent on durability.
In and out of a leather scabbard for 2 months in harsh conditions and still shoot straight.
 
Get one with a lifetime no-fault warranty. Zeiss gives you a 5 year no-fault warranty, vortex has a lifetime no fault, nikon has lifetime no fault. Not sure about the other manufactures and lifetime no fault.
 
Bushnell DMR 3.5-21 might be able to find one for $1500. Pretty tough scope for a good price. NF would be my choice but even a basic 5.5-22 is about $2k and up.
 
Get a nightforce nsx, I do have a 5.5-22 nsx, bushnell 6-24ffp and a 3.5-21 dmr I bought the bushnell scopes used so for the money I'm very happy with them but I do not regret the nsx it is worth the cash.
 
Are you putting together a heavy barrel long range rig that 20-25 power, huge scopes are a good match for? Or are you thinking more a rough use heavy sporter that you use the way you are now but with the capability to reach out when the time comes and be tougher than the horse it rode in on in the meantime? Take a look at 3.5-10 or 4.5-14 Mark 4s. Big 6.5-20 and 8.5-25 are great for long range shooting, but that's all they're good for. They ruin the handling of a hunting rifle for normal use. Oh, and if you think a VX 1-2 is tough you're going to be giddy when you try a Mark 4.

800 yard shooting with subtention reticles is a joke.
 
For your application of packing it around on a horse in scabbard I would look for something with low profile turrets.
Since this scope would constantly have pressure exerted on it while riding, a one piece scope mount would also be a good idea (Spuhr or Near) to take the abuse.

Something like a PMII 5-20 ultra short would be ideal (very low turrets) but is way out of the projected budget. A used Nightforce would be a good option (can be had for 2000 ish).
