I took my 9 yr old son James to Phoenix Range on Saturday. We needed to sight in his 243 Stevens (he put a matte Leupold on it) and I needed to sight in my Golden Eagle 300 Win Mag (because James stole my matte Leupold off it)
Anyhow, we get the 243 dialed in great. I start with the 300 Win Mag. Pretty good groups.
"So James, wanna try the 300?" I ask.
"How bad does it kick?" says the scrawny kid with arms like Kermit the Frog.
"A lot more than your 243, but it won't kill ya" I say.
He decides he will shoot it. I get Chris from the range to "take a look at this". Chris comes in the range and James gets ready.
Now word travels fast and pretty soon there are 4 guys also watching. They are taking the CFSC course, but decide to take a break and watch this kid fire a 300.
James shoots a 3 shot group that you can almost cover with a quarter.
I can't duplicate his feat.
Now I feel old and inadequate (well, actually more old and inadequate than when I first started, but that's another story)
I was tempted to use steel wool to wipe the smirk off that kid's face......
