Tough test for companies in carbine competition

... Just for my information, but does anyone know the approximate "lifespan" of the Current, Standard Barrels? And in the interests of cleaning, and perhaps "longevity", are the current one's Chrome Lined? .... David K

M16/M4's are chrome lined.

I think heat has more to do with barrel lifespan than rounds fired. I.E. 2000 rounds of full auto mag dumps will hurt a barrel way more than 5000 rounds in slow semi auto fire (never letting the barrel get too hot).

Not sure what the military's max round count is on a barrel.

IMHO LWRC has no chance at all. A piston system that needs to be accessed by ripping out the rail will not pass the grunt test. The architecture is doomed in the beginning without touching on its durability and reliability.

Not owning an LWRC, how is the setup different from say that of an HK416, SR15, etc.?

THe endurance testing for M16 barrel is 6000 rounds. The one for M249 barrel is 10,000 rounds.

Although the M4 will not compete, it is the basis on which all others will be judged.

Sounds like a waste of time for the competitors.

The XCR-L is the only long piston rifle in the trials who knows maybe it will out shine the rest of the pack...

No, I believe they were not evaluated. No DOD evaluation is available to the public, unlike the other guns in the trial.

I am not referring to the XCR that RA was late on getting into the last set of tests if I remember correctly prior to that they entered their M96 and it supposedly won out where it went from there I haven't a clue...

The XCR has zero chance of winning this competition. We all know it is not a top of the line rifle whatsoever, although with a few modifications and a real arms company producing them they could be a significantly better gun.

Do not underestimate LWRC they make a hell of a gun which is being used all over afghan by the DEA. The piston system on the HK416 is also accessed by removing the rail so i fail to see the issue with their rail system. Their guns are good to go.

I think the HK is the probable choice here, just judging off the IAR and the other NATO countrys already using them. However the SCAR is a superior weapon to the 416, so it will be interesting to see the results. The SCAR is more reliable by design.

In the end they are just going to end up with another M4 with some improvements, and this is just some BS in order to get there.

I'd like to see how the Colt entry works out. They have had time to make improvements.
The Marines IAR beat out the SCAR and Colt entries in their test by a wide margin.
I think the HK 416 should win.
As for the SCAR being the better rifle, it just might be. If you ever get a chance to tear a SCAR apart you can see the very, very close resemblance to the HK G36, heck it looks like you can drop a G36 bolt in and it would function, if the SCAR had a longer piston rod.

All this aside the best gun may be the Sig Sauer 516. It was designed by the same fellow who made the 416, only he stated that he had a chance to correct all of the short comings with the 416 design. The Sig 516 also has a specific gas setting for full time suppressor use.

The political pressure will be to keep buying from Colt.

The SCAR is long stroke.

And no, the XCR has never won anything.

I guess there was the sprv trial...I think the Robinson entry in that did well although I think there was only one other actual competitor. Also that trial was eventually rolled in to what later became the SCAR trial... The sprv was a search for an x39 rifle and only KAC fielded a complete entry other than the oddball gun robarms competed with. But the whole trial was superseded by the search for a modular rifle. Once robarms had to compete with people like KAC in their actual field of expertise... Well, you know the results.
