Toughest, non jamming, semi auto 22 ?

The only problems I've had with mine was a direct result of using dirty ammo. Besides that, it's been as reliable as all hell. I also find the tube mag to be much more convenient and easier on the thumbs.

Ruger 10/22, the rest are wannabe's.........
Gevarm gets my vote as well. I have two 10/22s that have buckets of rounds through them, and they are more accurate then the gevarm, but they jam more, and are more picky on ammo. The gevarm just goes and goes. I can't remember ever having or seeing a malfunction on it.

Ruger 10/22 target model. Accuracy is decent, and they work like a champ with American Eagle 40 grain.
I would argue the "ammo" issue. I've found 90 percent of the problems seem to be mag related and the rest dirt or ammo. Stick with the Ruger rotary 10 round mags. I've found the rotary mags to be the best for reliability with a semi auto .22.

I think you might have hit upon one of the secrets.
I went over to rimfirecentral for a bit. Consensus their seemed like the only thing any good on the new 10/22 is the receiver. They gut them and start over with aftermarket parts. That kind of turned me off.
They also feel a break in of 3000 rounds is needed to get them functioning as they should. Well to me that is just great to know. Could Ruger not smooth out the parts a bit better? Hey just wondering?
I do believe the magazine design and function really helps them run as good as they do.

I suppose I am just expecting too much. Semi's cost from $150 - $400, (mostly). Lots of bolt actions start around $400 now. People want cheap and good, but seldom find both in one package. Oh well.
I'm familier with the publicity test. They were shooting blocks of wood out of the air and what not. But one day it will fail. I've had issues with several semi auto .22's, shotguns and 3 centerfire rifles. I've had bolt action rifles bind up, with magazine issues. I've had issues with break action single and double shotguns. It can happen to any gun, but it's just the nature of .22 rimfire ammo that will lead to failures. Not all brands are created equal, and performance not only differs from brand to brand, but even lot to lot. My favorite .22 load for years, the Remington Cyclone was super dirty but worked wonderful, until the day you could hear the difference between shots. And that's when they would cycle and or fire at all. The little .22 just doesn't have the poop to compinsate for things like that. but that's ok, I still love them.
X4I have both a Gevarm and a 10/22, and I'll grab the Gevarm to shoot any day. I put about 8000 rounds through it this year with nothing more than a superficial wipedown, and it was flawless. I tore it right down, thoroughly cleaned everything, and it's still flawless. The 10/22 on the other hand misfeeds or stove pipes almost 1 per mag.
Brands of ammo? Whatever! I have mountains in my cabinet, ammo cans full of mixmatched, the Gevarm chews it up, the 10/22 gags on it all

The Savage Mark II models are under $400 ($200-$300) and are very accurate (with the right ammunition).
