Any favourites? Leaning towards a Henry steel frame in a big game chambering.

The idea being a rifle quick to assemble/ disassemble, reasonably low price, and handy.

Think I'd like a 30-30, 45-70, or maybe .44 Mag. Or .308.

As an aside, wasn't there a sale for the Henry on one of the business forums here? I don't recall. Went back to look and now I can't find it!

Guess I should kind of add a little information.

Really only want to spend around 5-ish to 600-ish bucks, and probably most of the time I have it, it will be rattling around in a bag or pack. And will be taken down and assembled very often.

The iron sights are a plus. I think most of the rifles I'd be looking at have about a 22" barrel, but have also considered possibly trimming it back to 18-20".

I'm a fan of the CVA Scouts (the stainless V2 version is takedown). Just bought another one in 45-70

The Henry's require you to remove a pin don't they?

Are all the stainless ones takedown? How quick and easy to take down and put together?

I think that has a sling stud you unscrew? Is it captive, or loose when disassembled? Does it get loose or go unclocked after lots of assembly/disassembly?

Excellent question. I haven’t handled one, and any knowledge I have of them is 5 minutes of web searching. I couldn’t find anything on it in 30-30.
My assumption is that it won’t be great, but probably deer-hunting-accurate at 30-30 ranges.
I’d expect it to work well out to 100 yards either with an affordable 1-4x scope or maybe even flip up sights on the long scope rail.
This is purely guesswork and I have no data to base this on. Just that it’s hard to go wrong at 100 yards with most 30-30s, and it’s still a handful better than most pistol calibers.

I have no idea when they’ll reach here. I’ve been keeping my eye out as I’ve had the same idea you have. Great for a multi-day camping trip, or teaching a newby safely.

I believe so, I've owned a 243, currently just bought a 45-70 model.

They break down like a lot of single/double shotguns (there's a lever built into the forend, release it, pop off the forend, once the forend is removed the barrel can be rotated out). No loose parts/pins, forend can be snapped back onto the barrel for transport.

For what you're looking for I think it's a solid option. Off the top of my head the V2 SS TD models are available in 44mag/243/45-70/444/35Whelen/300blk. There's a new version coming out this year

They come apart like most break action single shots do, there’s a lever on the forend that unlocks it for removal and then they break open and separate.

If you have sling swivels like an Uncle Mikes they unscrew and remove quick, from what I understand the new 2025 cva scouts come drilled and tapped for iron sight. Which is nice but they should come with irons for the 45-70, 444 Marlin or anything pistol caliber if you ask me.

Cva v2 ss scout in 44mag is alot of fun. Amazing trigger and accuracy is as good as one can expect from the 4moa red dot optic I have on mine. I haven't shot any precise groups with a good scope yet but offhand at 50 yards all shots are covered under the dot. Same at 75 yards laying prone
I'll likely get the new version in 360bhmr and possibly a v2 in 4570 because you can't have too many 45s

Been somewhat considering those. Agree on the 45-70! I think that's what I'd like the most. Or maybe 30-30. .44 Mag close 3rd.

I'd rather have it in .35 Remington and that'd probably be my top choice if available.
