Hey all.
I picked up a nice new Toz 78-01 yesterday, it's lovely, I've wanted one for a longggg time..

I am going to mount a scope on it, and was wondering, are the rails 8.5mm? I'm under the impression they are..

also, the rear sight.
I've tried tapping the darn pins out with a slew of nails, pins, etc etc all nice strong metal, and they all end up bending (russians sure build them strong, but jeez!)

which side should I be tapping from, so i'm at least off to a good start (i've tried both)

I use a Russian scope mount made for the TOZ, this allows me to retain the iron sights. The rail is a pretty funky size, I was using a tall 1" airgun mount from an outfit in Northern Sask, all his airgun stuff fits the TOZ's funky rail no problem. Regular .22 rings do not work on it.

The various .22lr rings I tried (mostly noname crappy ones) that I have lying around the house, none worked. The Kalinka mount is amazing, works very well with my Leupold 8x40AO scope.

Yeah I think I'll go that route.

I talked to epps, and i really dont want the rail adapter.. it means I cant use the rear sight, and rails are too 'western' for my Toz. i want to keep it bloc-ish.

i think i'll just hold out for the kalinka or ilk

You will not be disappointed with the Kalinka mount. It works well and matches the rest of the gun. When I shoot gophers I use the iron sights for shots closer than 25 yards and the scope for 25-130 meters or so.

thanks for the pics. looks great.
Also, i'll just need a scope with a 30mm tube for the mount right?

i must say, most scopes i'm seeing on various sites for sale are 1" etc etc and not 30..
are 30" scopes not very common or something?

maybe im an idiot.

Winchester Wildcat dovetail

The Winchester Wildcat dovetail is 10 mm wide at the outermost part. The model is listed as a TOZ 78-12. I'm hoping to make a "sporting rifle" out of mine. I think all I have to do is to change the sights.
