TR or F-Class bipods???

Mystic could you please report here to us new shooters, what the proposed changes could be?
I ask because my 308 has a 1 in 13 twist rate.....

cheers

As I understand the US version, they follow our weight rules and cals for F(F) but require the use of an attached bipod and there is no limit on bullet weights.

What I have seen are some very heavy for cal bullets being used in the 223 and 308. These are of course pushed hard to some interesting velocities to maximize ballistics.

With the 308, there is a group using the 155gr Lapua and Bergers going for 3100 fps. The other is pushing as heavy as 210gr bullets at over 2700fps (10 twists are most common). That's 300WM territory out of a 308. Of course, no pressure signs! Yeah right.

The 223 are now going 90gr VLD's in 7 or 6.5 twists. Again, being pushed as hard as the equipment will allow. I believe some have reached 2950fps with these super heavy weights.

LR ballistics are vastly superior to SAAMI specs but we are into/beyond even magnum pressures. Wouldn't surprise me that we are into proof load pressures.

FYI, proof loads do not blow out primers and will extract easily from a commercial action. However, continued use can lead to structural failure of the firearm.

Unfortunately, no governing body (except IPSC) is in any hurry to limit chamber pressures/velocities so shooters are going for it. Hopefully, no one blows up a custom action in the near term.

I use a Harris Bipod with the Bill Wylde modified legs. [aluminum spikes]
More F-Class Farky trophies have been won with that combo than any other. :)

Tried the front rest and bipod. Went back to bipod as scores were the same. No disadvantage. If I were using BR stocks then a front rest would be better suited. In standard rounded varmint style stocks I prefer the bipod.

Brutus,
Do a search for the Rempel "ski" pod. Best pod I have ever used.
Beats the Harris bi-pods every day of the week.
I think that Cyanide has pictures on his 6BR build.

The Rempel rest certainly looks nice but I don't think it could compare to the Harris or Shooters or Versapods or Sako.....etc.

The Rempel rest is nice but it does not collapse for portability like the others mentioned. Factor in the weight, bulk and yikes. Super rest if you can handle packing it around but for range use no worries.

This rest (Rempel) is kind of cross between the traditional heavy tripods and the std light weight bipods. Nicely made and a steal of deal given what you get for the money.

The main function of this bipod IS Range Use. I doubt very much that there was any thought about field use put into it, and that is by design and not oversight. If someone wants a field Bipod then one can buy a Harris/Shooters Ridge, etc. and get the required piece to attach it to the rail.

I wouldn't trade mine for all the tea in China, mainly because I don't drink Tea :D

For shooting Gophers and Gongs from the bed of the truck it is perfect IMO.

Rookie question here: Every one says "Harris bipod", is Harris just the best brand of bipod out there? What's the effect of using a lower quality brand?

Caljay,
As with anything - you get what you pay for.
Harris is good quality - roughly $100 range
Others will claim the virtues of the Versapod

Remple pod - works for me!

I just got a bipod for christmas and I think it was up in the $100+ range, what's the chances it's any good? I think it was a Rock... something something...

The one you have (Rock Ridge I believe) is a Harris copy and usually run around $25-$35 less than the Harris for each given model. Some people knock the Rock Ridge and others have no problem with them.
