TR rifle

TR Rifle
Robertson Composites, Ian has been shooting TR for many years he will build you one on a Barnard Action Tru-Fylte barrel and a piece of art robinson stock, and all you have to do is understand the wind and you could be in winners circle.

If you are looking for a good starter target rifle there is a Swing target rifle on the EE. After about a year or shooting it, screw on a new barrel and it will last you a lifetime.

Amen Maynard!!

Remember that the Tubb guns are really for across-the-course shooting (a sport not practiced in Canada) , and their caliber choices are not compatible with DCRA/ICFRA TR shooting.

Another alternative is the new Savage Palma rifle. these are built well an only need the sights and sling attachments and you are set.

Call David Tubbs at Superior shooting systems. http://superiorshootingsystems.com/
Someone there will tell you where to get them here.

good luck with that, I already tried and they told me they dont export to canada. I called Mcmillan and they told me they have guy to consult thats as far as I got from them. I gave them my email to send the info to, and still waiting for that info.

On the other hand you can go With RPA, Barnard and Musgrave action. It seems like most guys who shoot TR have at least 1 Musgrave rifle. However any accurate action will work with TR, I have seen Rem 700 and Win 70 on the line alot too.

bought this

bought this because I could do both F1 and TR competition
Sako sells a kit called the match sights base set that consist of a mirage strap and a front and rear bases that accepts all Anschutz sights

scope is a S@B 5-25x56 with P4 reticle
basees and rings are from NEAR in Alberta
I know its not the best of both but its a compromise
if you read the Sako statement on the TRG 22 it was develop to meet all UIT requirements
tried it at the range and its boring always shoots bug hole
the load was 43 grain of varget and a 175 gr sierra match king
extreme spread was 7 feets....

It will be a compromise because magazines are not used in TR (or F-Class) and your bullet weight in TR will be restricted to 156 grains. Distance between front and rear sights affects aim, and the shorter barrel will be challenging, but...

Sako are a very nice rfle, and S&B, well, there are no finer really. I hope it works for you

yes I went to the canadian national and got the rules book on F1 and TR rifle
and the rules states
bolt action with magazine are allowed has long has they are single round feed
in both the F1 and TR class
and a big surprise the semi auto also allowed as single feed also
and most have 26 to 30 inches barrel my TRG 22 has a 26 barrel....
theire the rules book says you are allowed front sights extension so I guess I am in without penelties ...
and for the 155 gr bullet you are correct
but there are discussion on this bullet rule it might change.....

Throw a bloop tube on the end to get the sight radius you need. I doubt that there will be a rule change on bullet weight for TR anytime in the near future.

Just about any 155 gr bullet will work out to 1000 yards. About the only bullet I have not shot at long range is the 155 Amax, but I have shot them at 300m. The RUAG ammo issued during the Imperial Meeting at Bisley this year was loaded with 155 SMK's to magazine length of 2.800". Didn't hear anyone complaining about crappy ammo.

Yes I shoot at Connaught during the DCRA Matches;)

FYI, CGN "Banished" (Aubry White) is the Canadian Dealer for McMillan rifles in Canada.

Aubry AKA North American Shooting Systems... put together my first 308 Win target rifle and he made a complete mess out of it. The machining looked like a grade 9 student did it as his first machine shop project. He did some work on the feed ramps also and that was much much worse. He didnt even bother to remove the grinding burrs. The Sako style extractor he installed will fall right out if you fiddle with it just a bit, and the spring hole for the extractor broke out the side wall of the bolt. He is not a finess guy by any means.

If you just buy something from him... OK I guess, but if he's still in business I would not suggest any custom work and definitely dont consult him to help spec it out for you. There's no telling where you will wind up.

sights

Maynard what is the most or best sights for TR
the sako front base that goes on the Sako TRG is for anschutz
I would like to leave the pictinny on for scope shooting
Sinclair have a rear sight that fits on a picatinny the name is CENTRA, ever hear of it or would you have a suggestion of a sight that would fit on a picatinny....thanks

canuck4570,

My rifle with this barrel seems to like every load I have worked up .020" off the lands. Some people have told me that they jump 155.5 Bergers .040". Some bullets like more jump and some it doesn't matter.
If your rifle has Anshutz grooves any 11mm sight will work ie. Centra/RPA. If you want to keep the Picatiny rail on the rifle the Centra is a good choice. They also make one for the 11mm.
The big thing that is hitting the market right now is adjustable ladder front sights. The "Right Sight" is very popular. With a ladder front sight the adjustments are about 5 MOA. With 5 MOA adjustments it means you make most of your adjustment with the front and only need to move the rear sight 1-3 minutes to get you all the way from 300m to 900m.
