I've been looking for tracer rounds for a while now for 22 caliber and 308 also for 270 and a 7mm 08 does anybody here know where I can get some I live in Edmonton Alberta

The only tracer you find will be old military stuff at gun shows. According to some here tracer is illegal under the Explosives Act! Nobody seems too concerned about it though (nobody told me I needed to know the explosives act along with the firearns act! Talk about confusing!). You may find some .22LR or .308 but I have bever seen or heard of .270 or 7mm08 tracer.

There may be some new commercial tracer rounds in those calibers but good luck trying to get them shipped into Canada as they are not approved for import by NRCAN and very well may be illegal under the Explosives Act. There is a member here saying that there may be some change coming in the future.

If you find some choice is yours on if to buy them or not! Good luck.

I was always quick to point out that tracers were illegal according to the explosives act, however, the new explosives act seems (and I may be incorrect) not to mention them as being illegal............

Canadaammo is pretty knowledgeable on the topic so he might be the guy to ask

Yep, that's what I'd noticed. While technically any explosive in your possession has to be on the List of Authorized Explosives to be lawful, there's so much old ammunition out there which isn't I can't imagine how that would be enforced or even stand a court challenge.

I haven't talked with Ottawa to confirm yet but we just might have a reprieve. I wouldn't expect ERD to be allowing authorizations for tracer ammo just yet though.

It is possible to get tracers in 556 and 762 because those are military calibers. There will be no 270 tracers because no military uses that caliber. It might be possible to find some old WWII german tracers in 7mm but the chances of that are pretty small.

And tracers are perfectly legal.

they are illegal to posses or sell without a appropriate explosives licence under the explosives act, the new explosives act clarifies this, but it is not yet in force.

as an unlicensed individual you may only buy, posses and make "safety cartridges" tracers AP, and incendiary/explosive rounds are excluded from the definition of "safety cartridge"

They weren't in the past (according to the explosives act).............
