Hello,

I am looking to purchase a pistol for wilderness carry and am having a well of a time finding dealers who still sell pistols...The market is kind of dead....Does anyone have a lead?...Or a 10mm pistol they wanna part with....not sure how I am going to do this...RDSC said they could order me a G20, for 3-5k....:kickInTheNuts:

My guess is that the CDN market is pretty thin after everyone rushed to buy every handgun they could before the ban...

So, I'd look to import BUT...

IRUNGUNS says it's a massive pain & they're out... See post 17 here: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2407635-Wilderness-ATC/page2

Which leaves us with Prophet River to import.

Hopefully this all just goes away in 2025 at the latest...

Are you only after a 10mm? I know epps still has 60-70 handguns left, not on the website though. Didn't see any 10mm but they still have several 357 & 44 revolvers, some 1911's in 45 and a 44 desert eagle.

Elwood Epps has has this on their homepage

ATT: Handgun Buyers
Any individuals who have obtained written permission from their provincial CFO to purchase handguns, i.e. Olympic shooters, trappers, prospectors, etc, can email us a copy of the letter in order to view our full handgun inventory.

I posted this on another thread and it was oddly deleted. Unsure why as it is obviously legal.

That leaves me a bit confused - I do not own handguns - I was under the impression that all transfers from one owner (like a store) to a buyer had been stopped - do not occur any more? I would suspect, but do not know, that to be able to get the wilderness ATC permit, you must have a handgun registered to you - is that even possible any more? From past posts on CGN, as if maybe if you already HAVE an ATC, you might be able to get another handgun transferred to you? Or if you have a suitable handgun already, you can maybe get the ATC - but I do not understand how one who has nothing, would start, anymore??

The system allows you to include a firearm not registered to you, to account for employer owned firearms presumably.

Assuming one did not own a suitable gun or hold an atc, you would talk someone into agreeing to let you list one of theirs on your application, then once approved, move to acquire your own.

So far as you know, is that even possible in Canada any more - to get a new-to-you handgun registered to you?

If you have an existing atc or are an Olympic level shooter you should be able to buy new handguns, or so the new regs say. I don’t think anyone including the provincial cfo’s know how this will exactly (allowing new purchases to be registered) go as it’s all new and is approached on an individual basis, no clue how applying for an atc will go if you don’t already have a suitable caliber gun registered to you. There is a section in the application if your employer will be providing the gun, I don’t know if the cfo will accept someone saying they will attempt to buy if they are successful in receiving the atc.

Im unclear where things are at as far as sourcing a pistol these days...for those so entitled by the crown to do so ......or for businesses likewise permitted to do so....

That aside I would carry a stainless revolver over a semi auto personally.
I prefer the design/manual of arms/reliability/durability as well as the ballistics of 44mag and up....its what I would bet my life on ...which is the sole purpose.
I would think there will be far more options out there remaining in Canadian business inventory of revolvers vs 10mm semis too.

Who kn ows...maybe the absurdity of firearm law will be righted at some point.....a vetted PAL holder is trusted with firearms...end stop....Its size/type/caliber etc irrelevant...and maybe throw in a pearl of real estate wisdom too....location location location.....even in todays emotional/political gun law....the same law for the inner city vs the wilderness is so absurd...mentally deficient even.

Choir may be seated ...thank you

or anyone aspiring to compete , where does a youth find an avenue to get involved with a first handgun beginner level
It takes years to achieve Olympic level

the turd doesn't care

as far as The Games themselves.....well..... 'breaking' is in :jerkit:

Lots of questions about how one is to obtain a pistol in light of the FREEZE...So I was recently given conditional approval upon passing the proficiency test. I was instructed to find a handgun from a dealer or private owner and the RCMP will arrange/ approve the transfer. Then I need to pass the proficiency test... Then I will be issued the ATC. They are going to allow me to acquire the pistol prior to passing the test...The only reason I am able to be considered for this is because I am a Professional Geologist working in remote helicopter access-only locations in grizzly country.

Here is a little more info...There are others who meet the criteria as mentioned... Olympic shooters, trappers, prospectors, and in some cases, iv even heard ranchers.

Another example of cowardly selective classification and political schmoozing from this govt

We'll leave a select class of people in a "special" zone just to maybe save a few votes and or the backlash/political fallout......Olympic athletes and indigenous persons were specifically highlighted ...the most glaring being the indigenous left to use their banned rifles whilst the rest of the populace face felony conviction for even trotting it out of the safe ....FFS Not only special treatment but tanamount to overt racism

This govt knows no bounds where it will sink to politically appease and oppress.

I’m surprised at the discrimination against less skilled athletes, if 5 guys compete at the Olympic level, and you’re the sixth best, you are SOL

...and then there's the whole, how does one even become an Olympic competitor without being able to practice, thing?

I wasn't aware of this!? Who do I declare my recent ancestor epiphany to?

Well then, you need something like this...a 629-3 or an Anaconda in .44 magnum. Gonna be really expensive though...

It's the same stupid assumption borne of jealousy and inability to know what words mean. Anyone who used their rifles to hunt before the OIC are allowed to continue doing so. NOT just indigenous.

Indigenous persons are specifically spelled out in the prohib rifle ban to be able to continue to hunt with said rifles.....this is a fact
