Trade Ex anschutz 54

the 64 listed is missing bolt parts and I beleive the 54s he is taling about are the Berettas that are suppose to have a Annie 54 barreled action.

Trade Ex hasn't had any for months. The last of the Anschutz 54 action rifles they had appear to have sold at one time back in November. There were a number there one day and they were all gone the next, including this unusual Anschutz model. There were three of these and they disappeared with the others, including some that had missing parts, such as a firing pin in at least one case and butt plates in a number of others.

I bought a Model 54 Match from Tradex back in September. It was missing the trigger guard and one of the action screws. There was no rear sight and the adjustable butt plate was in poor condition. The barreled action was in very good condition and for $499 it was a pretty good deal. I took it to the range and tested a few brands of ammunition. At 100 yards (with only 1 action screw) it shot one inch ten shot groups with Winchester T22 and Federal Gold Medal, a 1.2 inch group with Eley Target Rifle, and a 1.4 inch group with CCI Standard Velocity. I was quite pleased. Later this winter after rabbit season is over, I will carve a sporter style stock for it and make a new trigger guard out of Delrin. If anybody knows where I can score a rear action screw for this rifle I would be very grateful. I stopped by Nordic Marksman and they found an action screw of the correct diameter and thread pitch but the screw is too long and the threaded portion of the screw is too short to allow the screw to be shortened to the desired length.

Didn’t think it was that long ago! Did you get one? I know you can shoot do these.

I think many of them can shoot. But it seems each of them came with something that needs attention. The stocks always need some work and many were missing parts such as butt plates among other things. I haven't been able to identify the Anschutz shown in the picture above. It is a single shot with a repeaters bolt (all three of them were like this) and the barrel is turned down (made slimmer) a few inches past the receiver.

As ben777lemay says, J&P can custom make a screw for you. Be advised that it will be an expensive screw. A pair of custom screws is $39 USD, or $19 for one plus $26.50 USD shipping to Canada. I have one Anschutz (this one not from Trade Ex) that required a front action screw and I got a replacement from J&P. Good service but a bit expensive.

There are two alternatives. One is to get a 6mm cap screw that is much longer than you need. It will invariably have the usual 1.0 thread. Cut the threaded part off and use a M6 X .75 die cut new threads on the shaft. You will have to narrow the top of the screw, which is typically 10mm in diameter, to about 9mm to fit. Other shaping may be necessary. This can be done by putting the screw in a drill press (being careful not to damage threading) and using a file to remove material.

Alternatively, you can order the 6M X .75 cap screws (these have the proper thread) from ebay and modify the screw as described above and cut them to the required length. This is what I have done (I have never cut threads). The screws take a month to six weeks to arrive, but they are only a few dollars for ten or so.

Yup, the JNP custom screws are expensive, especially the custom sets. Shipping is also expensive but the parts are qualiy made.
Is it Worth it to pay the shippping for only a screw set, probably not... I usually order multiple parts when I order from them.

Urbaniamike, Grauhanen have a good idea, you should post dimensions of the required screw.
I can probably help you and modify one for you.

Well I'll be damned ... thats only the third Anschutz like that I have seen - and I have looked hard: there was one on a Scandinavian site two years ago I found when I was searching for some info on mine ... And I have one that is a single shot, double set trigger, factory chambered in .222 Rem... I send a picture of mine to Anschutz in the US -- they hadnt seen one like it. Nicely checkered full round ('Beavertail' ?) fore end and very nicely sculpted PG.

Thanks Ben and Grauhanen. Your help is much appreciated. I would need an M6-0.75 x 35 cap screw for my project.

Thanks

Mike

I haven't found any M6X0.75 screws, standard pitch for M6 is 1.0.

However I would be able to make one from scratch because I have the die nut but it would have to be a slotted head screw.
It would also be nice if you tell us what would be the required diameter of the head of the screw...

This or you order an M6X0.75 screw from eBay and modify it like Grauhanen told you.

Hi Ben

A slot head would be fine. The diameter of the head won't matter since I will make my own trigger guard and stock escutcheon and modify them to accept whatever head size is available.

Thanks

Mike

I made one from scratch. M6x0.75 35mm long with 9mm slotted head.
It only need to be blued.
