Recently saw and missed out on a Trade gun in terrible condition on the EE. Have been looking for a flint or percussion Barnett lock for the past 5 years to finish off my 1864 flinter. Anyone out there have any ideas on where to find this missing link?-or perhaps have a parts gun for sale? Many thanks, Cheers

Chris Hirsch owns this company, and makes an exact copy of a Barnett lock for Barnett trade guns missing their locks or missing parts. Should add his locks are assembled with parts copied off an original he found from the 1850s.
He’s a great guy to deal with.
He also carry’s a Barnett, he has a Barnett that was found in unfired condition standing in a cave in New Mexico. He copied the parts very recently I believe. Maybe they haven’t been posted to his site yet. We’ve discussed it as of last week.
The upper two are the same lock, although the unfinished one was not stamped with BARNETT and the circle fox. The castings for these locks date from the early '70s, when I was involved with the manufacture of trade guns. The gun is one I made up about 30 years ago, starting with a cherry plank.
The lower lock has the same external parts, but the plate has cast in marking, W CHANCE and the tombstone IA fox of the American Fur Company. This plate was purchased from the Upper Missouri Trading Company.
I believe that the same original was used to make the dies for both; it was a NOS lock borrowed from the Museum of the Fur Trade.
The barrel in the gun is one of Curly's. Didn't have any left over barrels when I made it.
We had the dies made using the lock borrowed from Charley Hansen at the Museum of the Fur Trade. Don't know the origin of Curly's lock.
