Hi everyone,

I am looking to trade my Glock 17 in at a local gun store for a shotgun. I bought it brand new in the spring, it is a 3rd Generation, and I have everything it came with when I bought it, i.e. manuals, 2 mags, etc. I have fired approximately 1000 rounds at most, and it looks brand new.

What is a fair trade value for this gun at a gun store?

Thanks.

It will depend on the gun store, is it one who stocks pistols?
Will he want it in stock?
Could make a difference on your trade in value.
One thing I can tell you, it will not be new price or price
that you see them listed as . he has to make profit on your unwanted gun.

Its very reputable gun shop in our area, sells alot of restricted firearms, especially glocks. I have already spoken with them, and they are wiling to do a straight trade, I just wanted to get an idea what type of value I should expect. Is $500 too much?

I think that sounds like a fair deal. Usually they go for $650 in almost new condition. But thats all up to you. Depends how much you paid for it and how much you want that shotgun and the cost and reputation of it.

If you sell $570, I can tell you won't have problem to sell here in the EE.

Sounds about right. Although if you sell your Glock, then buy the shotgun, the store will charge you taxes on the shotgun. If you trade your Glock for the SG, there are no taxes. At least that's what Reliable Gun did for me, before I discovered EE:D

Don't forget, when you sell to a dealer you are not competing with the retail price, you are competing with the manufacturer's price. You will get more selling on the EE.

Yes, I think a $500 trade-in offer from the store is very fair but a fair trade-in offer and what the G17 is really worth are two different things. I think you can sell it for $600 on the EE with relative ease and speed on the EE. Up to you to decide. Happy Holidays!!

I agree, sell on the EE and cut out the middle man. Remember that a new Glock costs an EE user $700 taxes in whereas the retailer can likely source them for much less (and he gets the GST back to boot).

Thanks everyone who answered... It seems like putting it up on the EE is the best choice... I just need to research all the necessary steps I need to follow as it will be my first sale and I am a little bit apprehensive

I would try to post good picture or two, mind you I have never tried that.
And give a good accu. discription.
I is real easy, BUT get the money up front.
Your only problem may be your 0 trade rating as some guys are
a bit scared of that, everybody has to start some where.
I have been buying handguns for years and never have run into a problem.
Everyone I have dealt with here has been 100%.
If you go this way, when it sold and you know the money is there,
phone CFC and start a transfer and let the buyer know what the ref.# is and
when it is approved, box it up and get a ATT to post office and insure it and
ask for the buyer to sigh for it so you when he picks it up, that covers you incase he trys to say he never got it . ( re the insurance, and tracking #)
No CNZ would try that, as we are all good guys .;)
It is not a big deal.
Marshall ( been at this for 30 yrs)
P.S. Mind you , if you are happy with the trade value , that is the simple way to go and the dealer may add to the pot if he really wants the glock.

Interestingly enough I spoke with the dealer and he advised me that he would give me approximately half the fair value of the gun on trade, however, if I gave it to him to sell on consignment I would receive 85% of the sale price.

Seems like selling EE is the best idea.

Marshall, when i phone the CFC do I have to provide them with all of the buyers information?

Thanks
