my LGS still does layaway. it's wonderful.
Um.. what? That is what a credit card is for. Buying stuff up front when you don't have the cash on hand.
Then... buy it.
Couple things... shooting sports is a hobby and at times, an expensive one. If people can't afford it, perhaps they should look for a hobby that is more within they're budget.
As for "hiding stuff from the wife"... I see people here all the time commenting on how they want to "hide" their firearm purchases from their wives. I usually take it they mean it in jest. I think seriously hiding things like that from your spouse is just asking for trouble.
Just my 2 cents...
my thinking on this is , how difficult is it to get a credit card to pay the rifle off in full , then pay off the credit card ?
if there is a reason a person is unable to get a credit card , maybe they have bigger issues that need to be addressed rather than buying another toy .......
chasing down money from people is nothing but a pain in the ass and I can understand why tradex no longer does this .
There is this thing that is very helpful in obtaining what you want without marital strife, loans, credit cards, interest payments, layaway, holds and usurious interest rates. It's called "saving." It really works when paired with a little patience and discipline.
OP here. Good comments all.
I really think a very strict layaway policy is good for business and good for shooters. Too bad if the rifle you want is on hold. Hunt TradeEx better.
I want a layaway because I'm not buying another gun without selling one first... The Postie lockout messes up selling soon. And I have no wife (REJOICE)
...And what's with the BS judgments about what a guy can afford and how he pays? Real men pay cash for guns.... Give the world a break. Who cares if a guy has different priorities or isn't liquid.... or is even POOR... It's up to HIM. If he welches on a deal -- then he's a chump.
And what kinda MAN who makes his money has to go thru his wife for a purchase of anything? I buy what I want no questions asked

If you don't have to money to buy then your just too poor. Pretty easy. As another member said I am pretty happy that they finally got rid of this feature that restrained me to buy rifle that were on hold.
Who need to put on hold a 600$ rifle anyway...
It's funny how conversations evolve... But I did want to comment on the wife aspect of this ongoing discussion...
For me, there's no debate. Bills are paid, ALL OF THEM including the full balance on our CC's AND THEN my wife & I discuss 'wants'...
In her case, it's almost always nice girly things, such as a pair of earrings for example. In my case, it's almost always guns or gun stuff.
No fights, no hiding, no fuss. Mutual respect.
I feel particularly blessed that my wife enjoys some of the outdoor activities I do, especially deer hunting! I guess I got lucky?
Cheers
Jay
P.S. How someone choses to pay, over what time etc, is a personal choice. Bummer TradeEx had to make a business decision based on some folks not upholding their commitments.
