I am considering a Zastava Commercial M98 in 300 Winchester Magnum from tradex.
Has anyone had experence and can give me an opinion. What scope bases do they take for example? How accurate are they? I am talking about hunting accuracy, not one hole shooting at 500 yards!!:D

I am well aware that Tradex has a good rep of square dealing. I am just looking for a honest opinion about the rifles.

I have one in 375H&H and another coming in 9.3x62. I quite like them. The 375H&H is the exact same as the Remington 798 from years back. They were also imported into the US as the Interarms Mark X. The only thing I replaced was the stock. Switched from the wood to a full-bedding block hogue overmold. The wood one from Zastava didn't quite free-float. I primarily use them for bear protection so they're def accurate enough for the short ranges I intend them
for (I don't scope mine).

For the price though you get a modified mauser 98 (side safety) controlled-feed action, from a factory that has been producing them for ages. The quality on mine are very good...esp the metalwork. I liked the 375 so much I bought the other. Tradex can't be beat either.

Actually, as said many times before, the Zastava actions are the same as the "commercial" Santa Barbara, wich is also the same as the FN Supreme action (less the Sako Trigger).
This is a "modernized" M/98, designed by FNH to be the civilian version of the M/98 they built for years for the military. Browning also used this action, so did Sako and Weatherby, beyond others.
The price they sell a complete rifle today is about the price the bare action (now almost impossible to find) was going some time ago...

As for bases, you have a good supply for FN M/98 commercial; Weaver #46 Front / #45 Rear - Also made in "Grand Slam", Leupold one piece STD-FN #49988 or #50025 for example, there are also; Burris, Redfield, Tasco, Buelher, Conetrol and others, if you want to.

I've handled and shot a Remington 798 [same thing] and I LOVE my Zastava Model 5 in 22lr. I'd trust a rifle from Zastava. Solid hunting platforms based on a true Mauser action. Basically you're buying a legend. I don't think you'll regret your purchase.

Can anybody tell something about fit ,finish and the bluing of Zastava rifles?

I have a 375 H&H and it needed some polishing in the action, mostly on the receiver side(rough finishing and a chip from tooling). Unpolished and working the bolt hard cause a bind, but this could just be a problem with the 375 H&H as it's a cut out action. Bluing was good and so was the stock. The recoil pad was as hard as a rock so I put a grind to fit limbsaver on it. Night and day difference on this large of a caliber.

Also if it comes with iron sights, the front pin is large. I need to file it down so it doesn't cover half my target at 100yd.

I would definitely buy another one as they are a solid rifle.
