So 8 years ago I got back into hunting and bought myself a Tikka T3 in 270 win. I was very pleased with the gun and it has never let me down. Recently I bought a Savage Axis (I know, I know) for my wife in the off chance she got into hunting. It was a youth model and only available in 243 or 7mm-08. Now my wife is no softy and on the odd chance she would elk and moose hunt the 7mm was the obvious choice. Now after a couple years of hand loading and testing it's starting to piss me off that the wife's rife is matching my 270 in performance and it's using less powder to do it. I realize I'm comparing two different rifles in two different calibres and that is problematic right there. I would think in most cases the 270 should be the better performer, but in the case of hand loading there are so many bullet options it seems like the better choice. And to top it off the 7mm-08 is doing it with a 20" barrel as compared to the 22 1/2" Tikka. I was seriously looking at a T3 in 7mm-08 today. Am I crazy? Has anyone else made the switch?
