I see on there website in the used bolt action rifles section that there are a couple of guns I'd love to have. Like most CGNers I have some guns that I don't use anymore that are in great to new shape.
How have any of you found Epp's evaluation of your used firearms that you have traded in?
Did you feel they were fair?
I'm really considering a road trip up there to check these guns out in person and bringing in my potential trade items. Just want some feedback before I get too serious.

They will offer you less then you think they are worth, but most stores do. You would do better selling them on here.

No doubt about it, sell them here. Do some research of the rifle you want to sell, and put them up for less that the rest you find her. They will all sell. If you have to bump your ad more than once, you are asking too much.

I never trade in anything at dealers because they offer you considerable less than what they are worth. They want to make a profit on the used item. I have found it approx 20-30% less than what the firearm is worth.

Sell them ont he EE!!!

Mlehtvaara, a higher level of decororum and politeness is to be used during posting in the dealers forums. No more crude language please, the next will result in a possible warning/ infraction. These forums are for dealers and not for general discussions. Thanks- USP

I am trying to sell a Browning Silver shotgun 12 gauge that I paid $1200.00 for in May of this year.
I am not happy with it and like my 20 gauge Gold better.
One Store I took it to looking to trade was only going to give me $500.00 for it and I was going to be spending that money in that store.
I'm just saying you might be better posting on the EE section here .
If you can not wait, try Elwoods Store and see how you feel about the deal they offer you.

Don't bother. Take some good photos, an accurate description and post them here. You'll get fair market value this way.

Any gun store will tell you that they need to make a profit on every gun they sell. What they offer is a easy transaction in exchange for 30-35% of your trade in gun. You can walk in with a old gun and out with a new one with no hassle, shipping, wait and so on. I have traded at Epps before and I feel they were fare. That being said, I prefer to sell anything I own for market value if I can.

Dealers make money on your trade ins. Have a look at some of the prices they are selling used guns and bows at, and sell it yourself for the same price. They are there to run a business and to make money. No different than trading in a used car. Dealer gives you a percentage, marks it up to make money on the old one, and makes money on your new one as well. Not one shop owner goes in business to take a loss period. I know I wouldn't, would you? IMO They only have 3 good guys working the counter. John, Mike T. and Doug. Keep in mind they have to pay these guys everyday as well as the girls up front. Only complaint I have at Epps, is the one loud mouth that works in the gun room. I am sure most of us know who that would be....

I have consigned three guns at Epps and traded one other. While I've been critical of them in the past on their condition ratings I believe they have improved in the last couple years.

I thought the terms fair and considered the lower amont I received for the gun a fair exchange for the convenience of not having to sell privately or put up with some of the bull#### that seems increasingly common these days on the EE.

Epps made a profit on the gun. In return I got a service. I have no complaints.

I can't believe that a company in business of retail selling would want to make a profit of coarse that is how the system works be it cars, cameras, guitars what have you some organisations are better than others some try to rob you others have a standard system on which they rely on simply take your firearm with you have it evaluated if the deal suits you then its a good deal if not politely move on to your next option .

I never had a problem selling guns on the EE, and I sold a bunch. Just be honest about what you know about it and take many high resolution pictures.

I don't fear any BS as seller on the EE, but I am also very honest and fast, I ship right away and don't need to be reminded to ship or initiate transfer, I PM the buyer of every step I do and when I do it, if you don't want to get bothered by that and feel that is BS, I agree with your assessment.

They will offer you considerably LESS then what you think they are worth. I found out the hard way after making the 2 hour drive. And that was even after I sent photos before hand.

I agree, private sales are better. but a firearm is only ever worth what someone will pay. And their worth for buying is at wholesale, most people forget that.

Why do people keep bringing in their old guns for trade in?

Simple. MONEY. Not everyone is rolling in money, so the only way they can get that shiny new gun they have their heart set on is to sell some of the ones they have grown bored of, usually at a significant loss. But,that is why people trade, because of not having enough money. I fell victim to this too. Now, I am just trying to regain the collection I gave up on the quest for the next gun I thought I had to have.

Bet you wished you would have sold them here!!:p

There are many over priced guns on EE they have literally thousands of views with no action on them for the most part any firearm in 90%+ condition will have a used retail value of 30% less than the lowest retail price you can find

This should be a sticky in the EE.;)

This is exactly what happened to me! Almost exact same prices too. Where were you with this advise a year or so ago!!!! I forgive ya though. :p :D

Thing is, for me to go to Epps, it's a 6 hour drive south, an hour or 2 at the shop and a 6 hour ride back so with that in mind, the next gun or guns i sell will be on the EE. I'd rather deal with the slight hassle concerning registration and shipping then all that travelling again. I always stop in if i'm in the area though. Sometimes they have some really nice stuff. It's a hard store not to spend money in. I had to lock my credit card up in the truck last time before going in. :)

While we do accept used firearms as sale, trade or consignment guns, the values are based upon current retail values for new guns at a fair percentage for a used model. For example, a Remington rifle that sells new for $500.00 and is shown to be in Excellent to Very Good condition (see our ratings guide under the Firearms Conditions tab located on the left-hand side of our web pages) would be listed for approximately $400.00 as a used gun.

Whether the rifle has had one round or one hundred rounds through it (no guns is ever UNFIRED, although we hear that all the time --- all guns are test fired at the factory, just like all cars are run with several kilometers on the odometer, even when new!), the firearm must be considered Used, as the warranties are not transferrable to second owners. Therefore the used retail pricing is usually a percentage of the new value of that same, or near-identical model.

For older used gun, the values are always driven by overall condition and market demand for that particular firearm. For example, a minty Pre-64 Winchester 1894 would fetch approximately $500.00 -- $800.00 as a used gun, while a moderate-condition Post-64 would sell from $300.00 -- $500.00.

These are examples only, and may not reflect the actual values of any particular firearm without proper inspection and appraisal.

Please note that we CANNOT provide values for used firearms over the telephone. We must inspect all firearms to determine their conditions before we can apply a value to that gun. The average owner's version of Like New or Very Good is often drastically different than the real condition once the gun is examined at our store. We WILL NOT provide values on speculation over the telephone!

Once we have established a Used Retail Value for any firearm, the following options apply:

If you are Selling a firearm to us, we offer 60% of the appraised retail value, payable by cheque only.

If you are Trading a firearm to us, we offer 70% of the appraised retail value, payable as an in-store account which can be used to purchase any item in our inventory, or to order any item not currently in stock.

If you are Consigning a firearm through our store, we offer 80% of the appraised retail value if that value is less than $1,000.00, or 85% of the appraised retail value if that value is greater than $1,000.00. These amounts are payable by cheque only once the consignment firearm has been sold.

If you wish to sell or trade any firearm, we require the following information:

* your full name
* your address with postal code
* your telephone number with area code
* your PAL license number with expiry date
* the Registration Certificate for the firearm(s) in question
* your place (city) of birth [for Internet transfer]

Of course you are always encouraged to seek the best value you can find for any used firearm you might wish to sell, but we do firmly believe that we offer reasonable and fair rates to our customers for their guns, and that we maintain fair and competitive prices on not only our used inventory selections, but on our new guns as well.
